I have enough problems as it is that I don't want to advertise.

Just picked her up today. Of course the first thing I had to do was have a photoshoot.

For now! I've never run tubeless before and the wheels came with Mavic's Yksion Pro UST tyres so I figured I'd give them a try. My tyre of choice is normally the Continental GP4000S II.

In that case, go for the "HE" option instead.

Hot enough that I can overlook disc brakes and electronics. :).

Same here. The gp4000s gave me more than twice the life and cost me half as much as my Yksions, but never having to deal with a flat on the road makes up a bit for that. Glass or goat head, just pull it out, spin the wheel and keep riding.

Medium hot. The bluish head tube is interesting. Or is that just the lighting? Must say that in the flesh, Parlee bikes always seem to make a positive impression, but the more I see of Red, the less I like it.

JayChadney 05-13-18 07:44 AM

It is the lighting. It is all white.

Funny story (or maybe not): When I ordered the Casati, among the colors shown on the website was a silvery blue example, which I wanted. Well, evidently something got lost in translation. When it arrived, the shop sent a photo, and it looked much brighter, but even more spectacular, I thought; it had that same bluish cast - just like the head tube in your photo, but all over. I get to the shop, and it's pearl white! At first I was disappointed, but white wasn't even one of the examples I'd seen. After I got over my initial dismay at it being "wrong," I realized I rather liked it, and I'm glad I didn't get the silver-blue I'd asked for.

What the heck... I am curious what people think. Just got my steer tube cut down today, bike is new as of Monday. Had black carbon tacx tao cages on it first, but then decided maybe the matching blue ones might be better. The size 60cm frame and resulting head tube on this Domane SLR might be too big to be hot though... :D . (It's still 20mm higher than the drop on my last bike, but comfy)

2018 Domane SLR Project one, Waterloo Blue, Aeolus Pro 3 wheels.

Don't like the look of the geometry or that shade of blue, so not hot. Sorry.

Yes, The tall head tube is troublesome. The smaller frames have a better look. I do at least get to slam the stem and still feel pretty upright.

On the color, I'm very ok with it being a love/hate thing. I personally don't care for matte black bikes (or matte in general) and that was the only stock choice. I think in person it looks nicer than in photos.

Thanks for opinions, good or bad. Any thoughts on the cages?

indyfabz 05-16-18 01:40 PM

The cages match the frame the color.

I think it’s pretty damn warm. I just bought a similar Domane, specifically because it’s the only stock frame that will fit my ridiculous legs without stretching me out way too far.

Little guys will complain about the headtube, but who cares what short people think?

For me, it's not just the head tube. Those seatstays are not attractive. And what's that going down the seat tube? Looks like some sort of seam.

IsoSpeed decoupling.

love the color and wheels but the geometry is indeed weird looking. what is going on there probably looks better in person.
black cages will look better and balance the geometry appearance.

It is a seam more or less. The seat tube isn't connected normally, it has the isospeed pivot and then the seat tube compliance can be adjusted using the slider thing. I have it set soft, but you can make it as stiff as the emonda.

I think the compact bars further enhance the odd looks. Bars with a bigger drop would aesthetically be more pleasing.

Interesting. I love the compact ones. FIrst time I've had them. The isozone pads in the tops and drops make them super comfy.

So, lower drops, more aggressive, hotter... i get it. (I'm not going to change them though, too expensive. These were like $300 I think. IsoCore carbon)

Black cages and level the GPS mount. Then it will be alright.

Im using an old Edge 500 now. I do wish the mount went down/level. I might switch to a wahoo element and ill get a 3d printed low mount for it.

I should have taken a picture with the black/carbon cages. I didn't think it looked right. In person its all different than with these side photos. Making a bike look good in profile is not always the same as making it look good on the road, IMO.
