I love the retro build. I'm debating putting the money into modernizing the drive train of an '86 frame I have. How do you find dt shifters with so many gears? Do you have to run a matching Dura Ace front derailleur? It's a great looking bike - I just can't wrap my head around how you did it for under a thousand.

It was under a grand because I had a lot of the parts laying around, and someone donated the fork to me because they couldn't use it (1" steerer). The Zipps were 2004 model year with a crack in the rear that I got for $300. I then spent $400 getting the rim replaced. You could probably buy most of these parts used and still come out very cheaply though.
Again, great looking build. |

I only wish I had stuff like that lying around. I love the look of the dt shifters and I assume they're pretty smooth since they are Dura Ace. Do you find that your hands are off the bars a lot though?
Again, great looking build. |

I too generally agree with this, but I'd say that some leniency should be given. We all work hard for our money, and we all are (generally) proud of our purchases, hence posting them here. Whether they are truly hot custom high end jobs or not, we should all be a little gentler.

We should change the name of this thread to "Fishing for Compliments"
Personally, I think all of your bikes are "hot" as long as your happy with them and you get to ride them as often as possible :thumb: |

$600 Performance Bike bike I've ridden the piss out of and thus needed several replacements (upgrades) over the years. Just brought it in from a little cleaning and futzing with crappy tektro front brakes that haven't been opening on their own well. All good now though.
tear me a new one =) Got cygolite and rear light moutned since doing a lot of late PM riding. http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/6199/800e.png |
Some good looking bikes here. This is my contribution... 2010 Specialized Tarmac Expert.

No one commented on how hot my Scattante is:(. Though no one cringed when they saw it either, or they cringed so bad they couldn't type out a negative response with their cramped fingers. Either way, that's a win for Scattantes everywhere.

Just got the rear derailleur on. Working on the rest. |
people really need to learn the difference between the "Hot r Not" thread and the "What Road Bike Do You Have?" thread.

Much like shoes... looks great as a size 10 but loses its appeal when they bring out a size 14. They do seem to loose something when your looking at a XXL/61cm frame.
It's size discrimination. Cycling is elitist. Here's mine again... it's a 61 and it is a Scattante. http://l17.sphotos.l3.fbcdn.net/hpho..._7783035_n.jpg |

I said something similar a while back when I posted mine. There is something of an expectation or standard around size. I get the sense that the "perfect" size for appearance sake is about a 56, a 54 or a 58 are ok, but outside of that and something just looks off.

I disagree. Black tires and you move into the HOT section.
I got some black ones on sale a couple weeks ago ("recent purchases") and just need to finish those off. |

2010 Ridley Compact SRAM Rival Fizik Arione CX saddle Ritchey WCS seatpost and Classic bars PRO Vibe 7S stem Ksyrium Elite wheel set I removed all of the components from my BMC (damaged in an accident) and built up the Ridley. This was my first build so I learned a lot from the experience and had a good time doing it. |
