Mostly 'merican stuff:

SRAM rival da levers, FD, RD, calipers
SRAM force BB30 crank 53/39
Mavic carbone SL wheelset
Thomson elite seatpost and stem
Easton ea70 handle bars
Shimano 105 black pedals
San Marco saddle (thinking of switching to a fizik white saddle)

crit/road race bike -- ~$1600 cost for everything

Thoughts/opinions?

Very nice. I think that the saddle works, aesthetically, but I know that there are more comfy saddles than the good ol' Ponza (I rode one for about 6 months). Cages would be the only nitpick, but only because you're asking. Personally, I think two black ones would look better.

I like the blue, but you have a little unused space left over on the post for more advertising.

Forget the bike, way to match the kid's clothes with the interior trim! ;)

Nice bike - I wish more manufacturers would do classic bands of color, rather than (almost) exclusively swoopy lines.

My" Dream"

sijray21 03-18-11 09:53 AM

Thanks for the replies on my blue CAAD9. The bottle cages and saddle are my only future changes. I eventually want to get a lower profile, lighter wheelset for crits and climbing. Haha, funny about the advertising; oddly enough I removed the deals on the Carbones last year, but it looked awful on the tarmac (I forgot to take pics). If I could have a solid color frame I would've left them off, I would actually prefer that.

BTW, I have not put it on the scale, but I can tell it feels significantly lighter than my 19lbs tarmac. I'll weigh it soon.

Ps - hot colnago up there. I love the bright yellow scheme.

Lot of really cool/awsume bikes here,

This pic is from the web of my new bike, no options added except extra gel wrap on the handle bars for my sleeping hands.

I have to figure out what I need, hope to get my butt on it this weekend as long as there is not too much salt on the roads between my place and the lake paths.

Different yes, Hot no.......
Frame graphics really kill an otherwise........ average looking frame.
Add on bulky SPD pedals and multi color brakes and its a no win to my eye.

I agree about the pedals. I have 105s on the way (not that they are too much better weight wise, I am pretty loyal to Shimano pedals). Also, the Tektro brakes are less than half the weight of the Shimano 105's and have a multi location speed select lever plus offer quite a bit more stopping power. Either way, it's a damn nice ride. Love the SL2 though. Sweet bike as well.

I really like those bars, and the flat lower section is nice along with the aero. Seems like Time actually implemented all the right components of an aero bar and ergo.

New pedals will help immensely in the HOT department. Your bike would be hot most anywhere besides here.....lol. There is some heavy competition in this thread.

I completely understand. I mean sure, next to some of the BMC's and leejs TIME machnine, there is almost a level of impossibility to equal them unless you're on a 20k budget. You can get this bike built up in SRAM red as well. That makes it very pulled together in the looks department.

VA_Esquire - what is that in reference to?

VA_Esquire 03-24-11 11:06 AM

the battaglin bike on the previous page.

Everything is hot, except the frameset.

I understand the appeal of "handmade in Italy," but the $5000 frameset pricepoint is likely to be a tough sell in the US with limited brand recognition.

Gary, just because of your love for the 7800. Here is another one that I did a while back.
