It is, I have strange proportions I guess but I'm quite tall (6'3") and scooting that far forward helps me get my knees in a good place relative to the pedal spindle. I've tried moving it back a bit, but I end up riding on the nose of the saddle when I pick up the pace. I wouldn't mind a more exciting color scheme, but the bike was a gift so I can't complain! Sorry about the pic, it was quite a sunny day and I snapped that on my phone.

Dan, that is one awesome looking bike! Looks hot indeed! Which model is that?

Dan333SP 10-21-12 06:29 PM

Thanks John, it's a 2013 3.1 Madone. I've swapped out the wheels, stem, seatpost, saddle, and brake pads but it is otherwise stock. It's the bike that finally got me over the imaginary I-can't-do-this hump and in to racing and it has already beaten some much fancier rides :thumb:

+10 Not a tek fan. I likes yours more than most on here. if you had some RED or Force group it would look even nicer. Totally agree about the saddle. Do you have shorter arms or torso compared to your legs?

Never mind. I see above that you already answered my questions. Lol.

Dan333SP 10-22-12 07:45 AM

I'll trade you the 105 gear on there for some Red gear... deal? :thumb: It would look cool to have the red paddles with the red wheel highlights, but if I could afford Red, I'd be rolling on something nicer than $250 Vueltas ;)

Welcome to BF, granted not everyone has a garage door to post in the thread but.....put the chain on the big ring. :D There, I'm being nice.

AWD, nice bike. Although I may be in the minority, I'm not crazy about BoB bikes, I think you've got enough red accents to give it pop.

Can I say ... Warm?

Sweet! My son just posted that on his school project blog (my sig, and I ain't spamming!). Have you been properly fitted? Looking forward to a ride report. Great climbing wheels, especially for the price.

No fit yet. I'll match it to my Spooky. First ride tomorrow. I'll report back.

The wife gave me the okay to build up a new bike piece by piece next year. Picking a frame is the hardest part, but those Van Dessel frames are really starting to look nice. Now if I could just convince the wife to let me spend that much on a frame.

Heh. The thing is, if I ask for permission, I generally get to do whatever I want.
I'd rather not find out what happens when I make a large purchase without at least talking to her first. :)

I guess I'm lucky it didn't go into the spokes. I did manage to snap some decent pics of the bike after the ride though.

sheldon fender nuts for the win! sheldon fender nuts are brake nuts that extend outward and have a 5mm thread inside that you can put the fender bolt into - so you can quickly/easily put on fenders.

fenders may seem dorky, but damn they keep the drivetrain/frame clean. I was soaked through and through regardless, but at least the bike was spic and span after the ride.

This bike is blazing molten hot. I'm normally not a fan of reflective sidewalls but it looks like (unlike me) you actually clean them.

Then cut it! :D Don't worry about resale as you really shouldn't be selling it in the first place. IMO, Parlee is one of those bikes you keep forever.

Adrian_ 10-26-12 07:54 PM

After getting hit on my previous bike I picked this frame up for an amazing price on ebay.
