I'm just talking about settings and sensor size, not capability of the body.
I have a 1D3 and 550D and some glass, I'm on board with the bokeybokey rules :D I like long fl with my EF 70-200 f/2.8 L as well. Creamy bokeh there. And don't get me wrong. I really want a full frame body. It was down to the 5D2 and the 7D when I was buying a few years ago. I ended up getting sold on the 8fps of the 7D. I short more action/sports than portraits.

No, it's not all in the lens.
Only if it's wide open. If it's stopped down at all, it's easy to spot the five aperture blades and it can produce busy, choppy bokeh. Strongly prefer the 40 pancake. Noticeably sharper, much better focus (accuracy, speed and noise), I personally like the slightly wider FOV and it's soooo pocketable - I'll gladly trade the 1.3 stops and an extra $30 for that. I have the new 40mm on my Amazon wish list. Just haven't pulled the trigger. (Also have the new Sigma 35mm f/1.4 on there. LUST!) I shoot wide open or f/2.0-2.8 on the 50 all the time. If I can handle a smaller aperture, I switch to either my 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 or 24-105mm f/4L.

I don't like the perspective of a 50mm lens for shooting bicycles. I shoot with an Olympus E-3 (4/3rds system) and the perspective of an equivalent 100mm lens (50mm F2) is much better IMHO. However, the bokeh on that lens is so-so. The bokeh on my 25mm F1.4 (50mm equivalent) is much nicer but doesn't cut it for side view bike photos.
And remember the 50 on my crop sensor is closer to 85mm. So it might work better than I think. |
My favorite lens is the nikon 35 f/1.8 dx. It's a fun lens to shoot with.

I tend to agree. The picture of my Giant in my sig was shot with my 100 f/2.8L macro. (Of course it's really 160mm equivalent on my 7D.)

I really love the 100 f/2.8L IS macro. I use it as my main lens now, actually sold off my 16-35L, 24-70L and even my favorite 70-200L IS. The weight of the 100 2.8L IS makes the 5D much easier to carry around. My most recent shot of the Allez was shot with the 5D and 100 2.8L IS.

You guys need to quit wasting so much money on expensive lenses and wasting more money on cycling goodies...or take the conversation to dpreview dot com...

Are those the new 2013 Boyd 44s? I've been curious what they looked like as I haven't seen any yet other than a small dark pic on the site. If so, how do you like them? Thinking about a pair.

new wheelset - yay or nay on covering up some of the decals? I found out they weren't removable so I just covered over them with some "carbon fiber" vinyl.

I would leave the decals uncovered, not because the decals are cool, but because they can not be removed.

Also, I tried the road pedal route for awhile, and just could not do it. I often walk around (a lot) mid-ride everywhere so the SPDs make life so much easier. |

Here is a revised pic of my Argon 18 Gallium Pro. Saddle bag now removed, new water bottle cages and chain on big ring. Sorry but I still have an erection with the cadence sensor...
