you cant really compare the two though. Thats like saying you test drove a toyota 4 Runner 4 cylinder and because it lacked power, you dont like any of the 4 Runner models even though a V8 would be a completely different experience.
|
I couldn't flex my 2011 Tarmac SL3 no matter how hard I tried...not that I'm a powerful guy...just at the time a 190+ lb lardass...maybe dem Roubaix is another story though...
|
I'm curious how they're accommodating the forces from the disc brake with the Zertz still in the equation. Seems like it would really add to the asymetrical twist issues under heavy braking.

Not sure if he meant flexy as in the brakes, or the frame. |
I got a chance to check out those hydro brakes at Sea Otter...all I can say is that they feel awesome. If you live in an area where you are doing long descents...they are totally worth it.
Every time I switch from my mountain bike (using Shimano XT M785 brakes) to my road bike...it reminds me how much cable actuated rim brakes suck. |
LBS sales rep/BG fit guru did ride the SW Roubaix and the pro (or comp, not sure which one I rode) and told me the seat stays and forks where very similar. Earlier this year, I did see the new SW with the crazy seat post but did not ride it. The Velo test did say the frame was one of the stiffest they had tested. Stiff is different then vertical compliance and that, is what I did not like and felt flexy to me.
There is a post on WW on comp vs SW venge, and most folks saying an SW is not worth the $ but they had not rode one, or any venge for that matter. About the only bike I have rode several version of is a cervelo S5. Been there test rode base rival, team Ui2 and VWD RED on my own wheels, and yes, base was a tank (heavy, slow shifting but dang the white frame is sexy), while IMHO, the team was ok but I was not a fan of Ui2. The RED was awesome, lite and yes, noticeably stiffer. Side note, all V8s are not equal. My truck has a 320? HP hemi, but my Z06 has a 460 RWHP LS6. That can be compared and yes, they are night and day. Thanks and ramble is off  |

I test rode a non-SW a few years ago, and it was super flexy IMO. For the thread, gets a HOT from me but not a bike I lust over like many, or most others in this thread. The new brakes look weird to me, and i have 2 bikes w/ old RED brakes and they are awesome, so not sure if the new hydro brakes can be that much better, or fit my hands better. I like the early 12 red hoods better then the last year RED (w/ new yaw FD) as they seemed more narrow and did not fit my hand as well. Until I test ride the new RED, open mind I guess?

That Colnago has potential. But as it sits "Not".
Stem, cranks, valves, big ring, headset, etc. The immediate Hot from a few just because it says "Colnago" is amusing. Almost as funny as the immediate Nots for Trek. |

Personally and just out of respect for the frame, I'd love to give this Colnago a "hot" but it would be qualified at best. This paint scheme doesn't appeal very much (to me) and I find the bulky EPS battery distracting, not to mention what's already been noted about the photo in general, stem, etc...and what are those, colored valve stem caps?
|
two dilemmas:
1) Should I put the downtube decals on? (they are white lettered TREK decals) 2) Should I put on white bar tape and/or housing? http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5535/9...57540cac_b.jpg |
^^ zero-offset seatpost + black saddle = hot

... Colnago! Hot! - Wait, what IS that???! That's some sort of weird graphics... Wait, never mind. NOT hot. I think the LdV is either love it or hate it but what I can't figure out is why a company of their stature would stoop to this and the "Jet" bike and other sort of cheesy renditions? What does a Jet have to do with a bicycle? I see a little bit of LdV's 'vision' of a bicycle some 400 years before it was invented but a Jet? Maybe they didn't have enough business in that era? Just idling thoughts sorry to Gridplan, but it's a not for me...
I will say that a better, lower angled photo with some of the 'rules' might help... Well, if you dislike this one, you'll probably hate one of my all-time faves (apologies if I've posted this before). It's my 2005 Colnago BrerArt, which I upgraded a year or two ago with an 11-speed Campy Super Record gruppo. It's even more of a love it or hate it kind of bike than the Da Vinci. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y56...ps0315a7d1.jpg |
^^ This Colnago BrerArt is hot in my opinion and staged nicely, not that I'd necessarily want to ride it for not desiring attention. But then I can appreciate PEGORETTI frames too.

Quite alright. It would be a boring place if we all liked the same things. :^) I don't personally find the graphics to be cheesy, but to each his own. FWIW, I don't like the Jet-themed Colnago either. It's not just that its theme is unrelated to bicycles. I don't see what it has to do with Italy. Commemorating a paisano like Da Vinci, I get; jets, not so much.

Don't get what people see in those colnago's. Just not my taste.
Where are the standards here? Staging? Stack of spaces? Chain on wrong gears? High angle stems??? Though, I do understand that sometimes a bike is just appealing to people regardless of the set up. I know not everyone agrees with me, which is fine, but at least I'm consistent. |
