The one that looks "floating" between the brake lever and bar drop? Those are either Sora or 2300 brifters with the cables coming out the sides instead of running under the bar tape. I never cared for the look much myself.

bmcphx 08-23-13 06:16 AM

cabling that runs outside the bar tape always looks bad to me.

It looks hot (or cool if you like) on vintage bikes, though.

that being said there are plenty of low cost bikes and older bikes on this thread that are plenty hot. And i'm not even talking about that lame azzz budget hot or not thread. that thread sucks

Precisely why I can't stand 2300 and Sora brifters. I think the new 10sp Tiagra brifters have the cables running under the bar tape.

the only thing worse than Sora is when people say "brifters".

I can't believe everyone missed the spoke protector too. Sheesh.

AdelaaR 08-23-13 03:26 PM

I like the word "brifters".
It's a fine example of the way language evolves.
The old brakes have evolved into brifters.

bmcphx 08-23-13 03:38 PM

brifters is an evolution of the English language?

bianchi10 08-23-13 03:45 PM

yup just like ginormous

Mansram01 08-24-13 05:27 PM

Like those are ginormous brifters? :twitchy:

It's a useful neologism. It's certainly better than typing "integrated brake and shift levers" all the time. "Lever set" might be better, but "brifter" appears to be the popular choice.

Only if we're talking about the new SRAM hydraulic brakes.

I normally don't comment in this thread (just drool and masturbate) but does anyone else notice the resemblance of those to the push bars on the front of police cars?

Ghost Ryder 08-26-13 12:48 PM

I can't stand the look of those new SRAM hydro "brifters".
Another fail on SRAMs behalf.
"Push Bars" is a good observation.
Those things could help "push" you back from going over the bars if you lock up the front brake.
(Some thing hydro are notorious for)

Why didn't they take a look @ some of the hydro adaptors that are available for Cxers?
Patiently waiting for Shimano, & Campys try @ this.

Ehm ... yes it is?

My 2007 Colnago President LdV, recently updated with Campy Super Record EPS. I don't like the risen stem, so I'm going to flip it.

Interesting paint scheme.
Don't like the headset being polished/chrome.

Clanier 08-26-13 04:06 PM

Specialized is a not for me,IMO the rear little "fat part" just ruins it...and they already look wayyy to thin so why put that in there. And I hate the hoods..however I'm sure they are plenty good for doing the job
