it's about 13 degress down here
is it a threaded head-set? If so, you need at least one head-set spanner and one big shifter
On my cheap frames I just bash the cups in with a rubber mallet

Or you can go to Bunnings, get a about a foot and a half of threaded rod, a few big nuts, and a stack of washers and made your own press.

I have tried the threaded bolt method but it never goes in straight, I fear I'm damaging the heat tube and I back out each time. Not sure if I should have it done professionally so if it needs reaming they can do that too. I don't want to ruin a new frame.

Is there paint on the inside? Most new frames should have been reamed and have BB threads chased before delivery. I just put a bit of light grease (or anti-sieze on the tandem) onto the cups, and press them in. The important thing is to only do one at a time. If you were closer, you could pick up the press, or just do it here.

paint, a little, yep, but the BB fits fine so I figured the HT was reamed out already. They are really tight in the HT, there's no way I could just tap them in, I might take it to get checked out by a pro.

If it doesn't look like it's been reamed after painting, take it into a shop. It should have been done after painting, but if it hasn't, bad things can happen when you install the headset, even with the proper tools. Sucks, don't it. By the way, the missus and I went back to Fernleigh today, to that little jump spot off the main trail. We parked at the trail head and rode our BMX bikes in. Actually had a good time just goofing off.

Racing at Calga was boring. A country tour with enough time for devonshire tea and a few posed happy snaps by the side of the road. They even climbed Blood at about half pace on the second lap!! Bunch sprint I went too early and rolled across in 8th.
Beaumont Rd was far more entertaining and 3rd.

you were there? we did ride, went past, saw nobody, kept going. You should have called me so we knew you were there, we would have waited....

I was probably going too slow for you guys anyway. I had some mech done on Thursday night and needed to do an "installation lap" before racing, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered!
Thx mate. 3rd is OK. One day I'll werk out how to sprint...

Sadly my kids have developed a phobia of bikes ever since the scooters came along. Damn those two wheels contrivances!

Do you ever listen to SEA-FM in the morning? They have this session where people ring in and vent their spleens. This morning some joker got on the blower and whinged about cyclists who take up a whole lane. Might get on tomorrow and whinge about impatient people. Or maybe it would be better to just ring up and whinge about people who ring up and whinge.
