Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: 8 bikes - one for each day of the week!

So how fast do you think you can pedal in that motorcycle race suit?

What with the thing being so bludy restrictive with all the knee sliders and armour bumps poking out of it, not to mention the rash and holes from my many stacks, I'd have to say probably 200km/h.

Is that all? I found out today that the pros at our BMX track hit the 2nd turn at up to 50km/h. Yikes!

Where do you live? Which track do you go to? I ran a computer on the front for while, check top speed on first straight.

FSA is good stuff. They do some nice carbon stuff, and we have FSA on the tandem.

Was, the track is in Argenton, NSW - Lake Macquarie BMX. Have you seen the photos I took this weekend?

Qualifying for the Nationals yesterday, and open racing today. Luke Madill was there, and so was Wade Bootes. I posted some photos over in the BMX threads.

Take the wife and kid to the track, everyone else does. I even got my wife a cruiser, so we can ride together.

Yeah, nice shots. I like the look of the step up out of turn 1. Mrs wants a road bike to replace her giant innova (I think that's what it is). I have been thinking of building another 24 soon. Mrs works in fashion, so dirt is not her thing.

Most of the big air shots were off the triples on the 2nd straight, which is just after the step up. I'm too old for a 20", so we've got 2 cruisers. Too bad about the missus, but she can still go watch. Or read a book between your races.

I have felt too old for a 20 for a long time now, being over six foot dosen't help. Gary Ellis was an inspiration while I was about 16-17 years old. What are you riding (24)?

I've got a Haro Group 1 SX 24, and a Felt Sector 24. Both stock with the exception of some ODI lock-ons, Kore chain tensioners, and an Avid brake on the Haro. I also got some Maxxis tires that I'll put on the Felt and swap the Tioga Comp IIIs to the Haro when the current tires wear out. Oh, Tyres to you Aussies.

[edit] Some of the guys I race with are 40+, and they still ride 20"s.

I was looking at the Felt a while back. Good value for sure. Chuck the S&M bars & profile180's on. I am still in the first half of my 30's so no complaints, just have not ridden since???? the nationals at Liverpool in 03 I think, maybe a race in the wet at Lawson late 03. Think I'll do a day at Castle Hill in near future, just get the feel back. Still do plenty of road K's and commute most days.

Back to racing: Won at Minmi (I really can sprint if I try!) and followed it up with a 6th in C Grade in the HVV Open Invitational (I really can stuff up a sprint by being in the wrong f$#%!n place at the wrong f$#%!n place if I try). I hate being rolled in the last 20m

Sorry Expat, didn't have time to jam in a coffee, ride, or coffee ride. But I'll be racing at Minmi again next Saturday (Central Division Champsionships Scotty, Climbo), so I might rock on over for a brew at the Marcus O'Lorne afterwards.

If they're done on a BMX bike, not really. If they're done on a BMX bike with the seat removed they count double though

Funny, this morning the missus asked why you haven't been around.

If it's just bruising a little bit of light riding won't hurt. For anything else your body will generally let you know if you're trying too hard too early. Also, if you see bits of bone sticking out through your skin it's probably a good idea to leave it for a day or two. Do a bit of gardening instead.

Yeah, the boss has me racing Sat and Sunday every weekend. Unfortunately I have to tend to the family once racing is over in order to keep in touch with my testicular buddies

Is your missus into drinking beers at the pub with wierdos dressed in lycra?

Hmmm. Do you think she'd invite me too? I mean, she doesn't mind coffee at a cafe with a weirdo in lycra.

And here he is giving it a go...
