Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah, it's the one day of the year I become a monarchist Then it's straight back to being a staunch republican. Two-facedness does have its merits from time to time.

Yup, I'm in ... just need to arrange around some other stuff.. sunday or monday is best.
Options include...(in order of distance from my door). Preference is semi-local...

Kincumber
Ourimbah
Woy Woy / Boudhi
Killingworth

If Jocks coming out to play then it's tech singletrack all the way... need to negate any fitness advantage he may have

Cant have a roadie going past me on a MTB... (unless its OTB!)

yes, too true. From winning to OTB in a single week.

Any preference?

I'd say:

Ourimbah
Glenrock
Killingworth
Kincumber
Woy Woy / Boudhi

no, no, no. No MTB for me this weekend! Central Division at Minmi on Saturday and Age Crit Champs at Beauie on Monday. Sunday will be a nice recovery ride with my old mates from the St Huberts Island Triathlon club.

So go ahead, knock yourself out. Do a bit of freestyle OTB on those rocky outcrops.

I'm keen for Ourimbah, it's been a while. Fancy checking out the downhill and doing a couple of not so popular sections?

yep, I almost bought a Cross-Check a few months back. Seen plenty, know plenty of people with them. The Steamroller is nice too but not for off-roading. What use do you want out of it? The steamroller is really an on road fixed gear bike, the cross-check is an all-round road and dirt trails bike but not good for the track.

Surly. Heavy......nicely designed....overall?....you get what you pay for. Good bikes for the money, no doubt. Just don't expect art.

hey Thylo, did you see my repair?

it actually looks cleaner in real life; it's a nice, smooth, flat weld, and the colour match is seamless.
50 bucks

apart from track racing, what do you want to do with it? If anything, you can find a nice track bike second hand without buying a Surly which will be about $800 or so without wheels.

Congrats Jock. I missed that part about your win. I'll be making an effort over the 3 days to get the missus on the tandem, and get some solid BMX practice in. I'm hoping to get up to the level of some of the 9-12 year olds. Someday it will all come back to me.

Not wanting to be pessimistic but I think it will crack again soon beside the welds. I'd have patched it something like this

Just looking to kick around, do some road KMs, mainly track use.

So are you officially qualified to teach me how to catch barrels?
