Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: 8 bikes - one for each day of the week!

I get my single speed Friday. Hee hee. It's got 24" wheels. Oh wait, it's a big boy's BMX! Haro Group 1 SX Comp. I'll ride it on the road down to Jeso for practice.

Hey munchie, whats your training schedule for the weekend... I'm keen to catch up if you're on recovery!

You're welcome to take it for a blast.

My thoughts are they work real well apart from the rebound/control knob turns when I use the lockout/adjuster.

Other than that no complaints and not much in the way of maintenance... or maybe thats just me!
that'd be cool, we'll hook up for a ride at Woy Woy tip one of these days.

I'm on recovery week, but it's not living up to its name! I was in agony on yesterday's ride. On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is no muscle soreness and 10 is pain equivalent to a broken femur, the pain rated at about 6. I've never felt anything like it, ever. Better this morning tho.

There's a 40km training ride starting at the roundabout at Shelley Beach at 5am tomorrow, might check that out.

Saturday I'm tossing up between Akuna Bay boot camp and the local coffee ride + a few hours of general stuff. Leaning towards Akuna Bay for a bit of a workout.

Sunday cruise to Ourimbah, race, cruise home.

My vote is either for the Marzocchi Marathon or Fox F80 RLT. Both of which I can source for you if you'd rather not pay retail. The Manitou Black Super Air 80 is also a good buy if you're on a budget. ( all of these forks are 80mm and air sprung and super reliable, which is why I suggest them ).

I agree, I hate screwing around with forks. I even think lockout is a joke.

I agreed with you on lockout, until i started riding a road bike.
After that my MTB felt like i was on a spacehopper!

Lockout rules for the road KMS to the dirt! Unless you drive your bike there?

Mine was free, and works great. Hard to justify what they're asking for a fork down under these days.

I think Bucky is organising an easy MTB ride out the Newcastle way. It may involve a coffee stop too.

mad scot, yep, MTB Saturday could be a good idea. I'll let you know but morning time sounds good, 8 or 9 am start somewhere. What r u thinking of? We'll take it easy so you can keep up with the geri's on Sunday morning.

Or we could go to Newy way if Expat or Bucky has something going on.

8 or 9 sounds good, Munchies 5am starts are nuts!

We can ride out to WoyWoy on road (20km) and go up thru the tip towards the back of kariong, couple of small firetrail loops, then retrace steps a bit back to follow great north walk singletrack and weird rock plateaus (Some V tech so little bit of carrying), back to other end of the tip, up firetrail to pearl beach road, down firetrail into pearl beach, from there round the rocks to ettalong and home via kincumber or back round woywoy route.

Or we could drive to the tip and eliminate ~40kms on road.
Probably take 2-3 hours excluding the road stage... Sounds good just writing it!

Oh yeah, and you're on web busting duty

Going for a ride tomorrow evening to explore some more of the trails (Expat you are still more than welcome to join us on that one as well), and will prob organise some sort of ride Saturday morning again. Coffee stops are always on the card if people want to have one, I am easy. Was going to go early (about 7ish again) but if people are going to make an effort to come up then we can make it a more acceptable time.

Expat, do you know where Rifle Range road is? Suppose to be somewhere up near the telstra Aerials and Water towers (out near where we came out last Sat from our ride i think)?

Not sure about tomorrow, but it's looking good for Saturday. I'll check with my wife about Rifle Range Road when she gets home.

Argh!!! how do you find motivation at work? that is something I am really struggling with. I have been side tracked for the last hour with strip poker but alas that is not work computers are for, or something like that

Munchie, just read your blog, cant believe you raced C grade at Ourimbah....I assume you're in B this weekend. How good was the lead out by Canadian Pete (big guy)?

Well coach sez stay in C until I get another win, unless the handicapper puts me straight up. That might happen coz there was a guy on the finish line that I used to race with years ago, and I reckon he'll have had a quiet werd in someone's ear...

I was very appreciative of the help Pete and the young girl gave at the front. I was less than enthused about the sit-on-spinners, but it felt good blasting them away on the third last lap. I love it when they have no legs left. Mewhawhawhaw. Shame I couldn't bring Pete with me, but he got stuck at the back in a grade overlap at the bell. Them's the breaks
