Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

there's only one thing for it - new carbon handlebars, bar tape and end plugs. There's no telling what structural damage the bars have sustained, so better to be safe than sorry

You're right. I hadn't thought of it that way. In fact there may be a hairline crack in the frame somewhere. That could fail catastrofffically and pose a potential risk to my well being. I guess I'll just have to buy a whole new bike. Bugger

At least the wife will be pleased that I'm looking after my well being. Thanks for the excellent advice 'vette

stupid question but why can't they just close out the end of the bars with alu/carbon, whatever the bar is made of. why plugs? can't they make the bars close up during the extrusion process?

Weight?

Hey, talking about little pieces. My crash has left my pedal all hacked up and as well as the face of my rear derailleur. Me not likes the rash on these parts so I want to do something about it. I thought getting a dremel and cleaning up the pedal wouldn't be an issue, but what about the derailleur? Is that face a load bearing part that might fail if I take to much metal off in the process of smoothing it out?

{edit} for the worst typed post ever.

true, but with some of these new fancy bars already costing about half the cost of my whole bike, what's a few extra bucks?

I'd say it'll be ok if you don't take too much off. Eddy drilled holes in his didn't he?

That's what I'm saying. I can't picture Groundskeeper Willie ever uttering that though.

since the demise of "laneclosed", here's a laugh for you....if you've got time to read any of it....contains the 'heyday' of my racing career and the other goons who named me Climbo way back when....

Most fo the pics are missing but some of them are there in the race reports, some good ones too.

I went for a lite roll this morning (first 4 o'clocker for a couple of months!) and all I can say is "OUCH!" I uncovered some more sore spots that I didn't know I had, and found out that the left knee is pretty goddamn dodgy (ie. unstable).

Should make for an interesting weekend of racing
