Hi folks, I posted this question in the rr forum, hope you do not mind me cutting and pasting it here

What happened to Jay Sweet, 30 this year, he should be winning TDF bunch kicks and coming into his own.
One tour with Big MAt Auber 95, which lost Auber struggled to pay wages and became div 2 Big Mat. I think he had another season after his tour year, then in div 2 proper, assuming Auber were only a dvi 2 like Casino/AG2R. He went to ? Saturn or MBK Oktos then, then finished with Oktos in France I think.
This bloke had speed, won a Tour L'Aviner stage, and some other small Frenchies, beating Kirsipuu in his prime, among others. Blokes he beat like JPN (Nazon) are smoking come tour time.
My questions are, how quick was he? What were his problems? Why is he not on a ProTour team now?
Is it the Quaranta effect, Quaranta quick enough to win Giro stages in his early twenties, does not have the strength now to be a road race sprinter. Might be a good track points/scratch/madison man. Now even when he won Giro stages, they would have been Piano for most of the 150-180 k, with Cipo on the lookout for belle donnas, and marshalling those on the front to slow down. Or did Sweet struggle with the disciplines and cultural barriers so far from Aus, hypothetically speaking if the Protour was ridden in Aus would he be ripping it up?
Corey Sweet is doing well with Comnet Senges in Germnay. I think Credit Agricole gave him short shrift and a dud racing program because he was a Stewie ring-in. He is good enough to win Coup de France races. His brother was good enough to win the seaon Coup de France I think. Kirsipuu never goes over the mountains in the tour, and Sweet was hanging on to the Red Lantern there.

the pedals are hard to see on my monitor at work too.... but yes, they are on there. With that eye for detail, I'm surprised you didn't pick up on the top mount bar levers.

Campag man I am, yep. Heavy, yeah, reasonably heavy I suppose but I have a light on and a full saddle bag. I have not actually weighed it properly.

Heavy.. schmevy... The 5 weetbix you eat for breakfast will counteract any benefits of a light bike!
I say make bikes heavier to set the center of gravity based on the weight of the person riding it....

Went up Kincumber mountain yesterday from the back-end of orana street.... lots of rain made the trails like glue but at least stopped the wheelspin & I managed to make it up a couple of climbs that I ran out of traction on before.

 they have started to grade the road part way through the forest down to the section behind bi-lo!! Hope they dont do the whole forest!

Anway, made my way up to the main hut and headed down towards your place... found a section of singletrack linking the 2 lookouts which had a little gap jump built.... then followed the nyari lookout trail down and folowed an old downhillish type trail which came out at the same point we entered from Bronzewing! Lots of drop off / off camber slippy green rocks!!!

Well the point of all that was to entice you and yoiur new light into a night ride this week? How does tue or wed sound?

PS: Discovery Channel 20:30 docu about Lance & the technology behind him....

climbo 06-26-05 07:44 PM

Tomorrow is out, Wed might be OK.

A few of you guys areup from the Newy area, was wondering if anyone had ridden Killingworth?

Looking at making the trip up this weekend, was just wondering what to expect there and also if there were any highlights of the place that should be ridden?

cheers

Geez, you're almost as tall as me. That frame looks nice and laid-back too.

Apparently the practice hasn't paid off. I missed this report earlier in June: the dopey bugger is doing his best to miss the 2005 tour too! http://www.cyclingnews.com/news.php?...n05/jun08news2

Dunno. Last years effort with nine is the record so far

climbo 06-26-05 09:57 PM

you listed about 12, including Scott Sunderland (?)

Sounds like a bumper crop anyway... Should be a good year again, here's hoping we get in the thick of the GC action too.
