Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I wouldn't trick you into clicking on a Lance link, so here's one for my "Steel is real" mate.

Anzac day sounds good.

We could combine it with the annual hill climb from South Newcastle Beach to Strezlecki Park via King Edward Park. I'll bring the bucket

Best non European was Steve Bauer in 1990...2nd to Eddy Planckaert by the width of a Vittoria Corsa CG Pave.

no they didn't, and it's not like there are a ton of Canadian riders to choose from.

Bauer was my hero.
From his SMM-La Suisse days when he took out Claude Criquelion at the 88 worlds.....I've got those Ronse Worlds on video and Bauer only made the front group with a superhuman effort with about 1000m to the finish. Incredible.

Morning lads...Scratching my a*se on the tram this morning and had a question jump into my head..."when will Campy/Shimano build an 11 speed for rode bikes?" I know...It IS earth shattering.

Any views when this will happen and how many gears we will be riding with in 5 years time?

ok, so Anzac day, what time? 9am ?

If we have a morning ride, I'd be glad to host a BBQ and bevvies to celebrate the old diggers efforts in the arvo.

I see a coupla niche markets emerging: reverse dished wheels and the ultrawide frame (be prepared young thylacine). I'm putting all my money into setting up an overlength skewer company

This MTB experience had better be good. I'm gonna miss my dose of endorphins at Beaumont Rd races

Nope. Jewelstown is waaaay to far south for Glenrock. Expat will correct me if I'm wrong (of course), but I think the best place to meet is under the comms towers at gun club rd Merewether Hts. Here's a map I made earlier

cool, got it. I know that road sorta, can you make a right in to it from the highway? I can drive the truck so if you wanna come with me, give me a shout. I can fit 2 or 3 bikes and people.

If you're in your truck you can do whatever you please, I would imagine ...but yes, you can turn right at gun club rd.

Actually wattsy's dreamin might not be too cwazy. Imagine if those clever little Japanese fellas were able to rig a type of 'overdrive' INSIDE the cluster (ahh, remember the days when the dragster was king) that allowed you to split ratios.
Same 10 gear cluster externally, but direct drive and a 1:0.96 INTERNAL slip ratio. It's not impossible to imagine.

Back soon, I'm just off to the patent office...

Still workin out Anzac weekend plans... will let you all know.
Muchie, great dishonour blog. Mycontributions, week to date;
1x plain old bike swerver
1x bike lane driver (due to low sun)
1x Horn blower (no reason)
1x Shouter (no reason)

Previous favourites include;
The junction revver (pretending they are about to T-bone you)
The mirror shiner (yes the passenger detached the rear view mirror just to try and dazzle me with the sun
And of course the caravan/trailer/bus determined to drive so close in the hope they will hook some loose part of your clothing and drag you to a bloody pulp!

Yeah, I love the last one. Interstate coaches are the worst. I used to travel a lot by coach and always thought the drivers drove safely. Apparently not when they're around cyclists

I can open that blog up for you if you want to post. The more the merrier I guess.
