Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

See Willo's quote??

"I didn't think I was going that slow....but my arms, elbows and earlobes were lactating!"

Pisser.....he said some other one about stage 1 being like a big Bay Crit....sunny weather and a bunch of Aussies cruising around.

would be a great Giro to be an Aussie this year, and it will continue that way hopefully. Plenty of young guns coming through the ranks at the moment also.

I know it's early but anyone riding this weekend?

Thinking about re-hashing the Anzac Day Glenrock ride for Sunday morning.

Hell yeah, but it won't be in the OTB competition. We've got Calga, Broke CD, or Beaumont Rd to choose from.

There'd be no point anyone else competing for the OTB: I'd win easily given that I dunno how to spell MTB

Something for the southerners to help me understand.

AFL ruckmen, how sucky is that position? I just don't get it.

Seriously, why do they bother with them? They can never get a clean hitout, why not just spoil the opposing guy and wait around the edges for the ball as it comes out? Tall guys are usually slow, you could play a smaller faster bloke in that position.

A good ruckman [tall, bigger player] is to WIN the the ruck and dispatch the ball to a team mate ,a rover or crummer, to get the ball towards the goals involving foward players. The ruckman is only for the bounce downs and boundry throw ins.\Also handy when theres a few punches thrown in a brawl.

yeah but they never do that when I watch it, it basically is a huge scrum when it comes bouncing out from the ruck. Do they ever catch a clean hit to their player? Even if they can hit it clean, they have to be bloody good to pick out there man who is being heavily marked don't they?

The player who is being kicked to has to get in front to get possetion, your counting on your player to win the contest, and not allow a turn over. Depending on the match ups, if the rucks are of equall hight and strenth the ball will go either way.Footy has changed over the years, players now dont nececerly play in there set possitons but move arround the ground.Match ups are a major part of the game.{cycling content, great weather for cycling, also the bike shops here are stocking more threadless valve stems, great for tight pump fittings }

As in Don Lane the man who mastered the art of offending everyone with a huge cheesy grin on his face?

Man so many conflicts of interests over there. It doesn't seem prudent to have a sponsor as a moderator in my books. I'd better stop. Expat got concerned last time I started to rant

I wonder if I'll have to create yet another account to see what's going on in cycling forums....

HarHarHar. They've locked out my account again so I can't speak. I could carry on setting up account after account, but I couldn't be bothered with them anymore. I only posted there 20 times in 8 months (before last week).

Not me, busy that weekend anyway.

New or used? The Avanti track bike is only $1,100 new.
