Ten of them were racing up and down our beautiful canyon road this weekend, using the entire road and causing my riding partner and I to pull off to the side of the road.

At one point, we could hear them approaching so we pulled over. They came within two feet of us (on the opposite side of the street) as they rounded the corner at 70 mph +.

I'll admit we fantasized about throwing rocks at them, setting up a trip line or piano wire, or other traps. Our mobiles had no signal so we couldn't call the cops.

They passed us at least three times (we knew ahead of time because they had a scout riding ahead) and really disrupted our ride.

And oh yeah- a cyclist was killed on this road just two months ago by a drunk driver.

Sounds to me like cyclists need to get off that road. Darn hippies are always getting in the way.

There's a difference between cycling legally on a road and taking up the entire roadway and illegally racing on it for a couple of hours.

Without getting into it, I'm both a motorcyclist and a cyclist. Share the road works both ways and unfortunately, those guys are asses. That is, there are ways to enjoy a nice road like that and check up when you see a cyclist or two so as to not buzz them, etc.

My best advice is to ride early morning to avoid any peak traffic. Unfortunately, sometimes this is when the people in fast cars and fast motorcycles like to do their acts of stupidity.

When I did go on "fast" rides with my motorcycle buddies, we usually did it at 2 a.m. No cyclists out and certainly not many cars.

I'm not saying there isn't, but you're in no position to enforce the law. Chances are they weren't racing.

They will get what they deserve, however, and it isn't like you've never broken the speed limit, ran a red light or stop and generally made a decision on the road which could have caused an usafe situation for other users of the road.

This is typical of most canyon roads in Southern California on the weekends. I try to choose roads that are a little too technical for the motorcyclists (i.e. Topanga) but sometimes I venture into motorcycle heaven (i.e. Rock Store). That said, when I see them at rest point I aiways stop and say hi and the majority of them are really nice people enjoying the roads like we do.

You want them off the road, they want you off the road. Hell, it was designed for cars anyway, so unless you have 4 wheels that can maintain the speed limit, go home.

If they keep riding like that, Johnny Law, or Charles Darwin will get them.

if you're caught racing or stunting on public roads here it's up to $10,000 fine, minimum $2000, immediate suspension of your license for 7 days, immediate 7 day impound of your car.

Hardly. The argument goes both ways.

Heck, if we watch the video the ``super bikes'' (which most of them likely are not) are going rather slow and only encroach on the yellow line so as to give more distance to some non-disabled cyclists that have decided to take a holiday on the shoulder and they did it in a poor spot on a technical section of road.

I have never encountered bike riders in a group like that in Norway. Really scary! The bikers here have a regular café stop on a road used by a lot of bicyclists on the weekends. There might be hundreds of bikers at the stop sometimes. I have never seen anything but polite and friendly driving from them around us cyclists. The US are usually 10-15 years ahead of us, hope this trend never comes here.
