I would ride in the rain (except heavy downpours) if the roads were like that, and today reminds me of the ride I went on from Glasgow to Edinburgh several years ago. What keeps me riding in the rain is thinking of my commute to work in the rain with all sorts of junk to give me flats and drivers with even less visibility than usual.

Today was my first commute in the rain - it was considerably less sucky than I thought it would be... one nice little bonus was the very light bicycle traffic.

I almost rode in to work today but decided I didn't want to have to clean my bike later so I'll ride tomorrow rain or shine. If you stick to the Greenway it's not a bad commute at all, though for me crossing the GWB on a cold, rainy and windy day is never that inviting.

I removed the 2cm of spacers from the Pedal Force RS yesterday. Even with none the 14.5cm head tube for a 53cm frame is still 2cm more than most 'Addict' level frames that sport 12cm head tube lengths. Flexibility getting there.

Speaking of riding in the rain, what's the recommended maintenance that I should perform after a wet ride? Pulling the crank spindle, cleaning and re-greasing gets rid of any creakiness that I sometimes experience, what else?

You do that after every wet ride?

Here's my list:
- Wash bike with warm water, use some sort of soap if it's really bad (this is all for aesthetics).
- Wipe chain down with rag, re-lube chain, wipe excess lube with rag.

Yes, it's no different than fair weather maintenance except that you will probably re-lube and wash more often in wet weather.

Nah, just when it creaks :p Doesn't take much more than 10-15 minutes, though.

Almost forgot, if you live in an apartment with no yard, I hear baby-wipes do a good job of cleaning the bike.

You can finish off the bike with Pledge to make it shiny and somewhat dirt/dust resistant.

^^^ my back yard is a mud bowl, right about now, so I'll have to give that a try. Thanks!

Seems like it's been windy all month here.

People should pay me to go out riding around their windfarms--inevitably the accompanying winds will boost power production.

Maybe it's the wind that you take out of pcad's threads? ;)

I think you mean the hot air. Remember where you are, the thread with the most hot air in a forum based on hot air.

So I gather that titanium bikes are only for old people? They're better for fragile bones?

mzeffex 05-12-10 06:03 PM

I've gone from 187 pounds to 168 in 3 weeks. It's awesome.

Still going. I'm 5 9.
