Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Now that you pointed that out, I'm gonna go back and delete some of my earliest posts. No one needs to know how much I loved my vintage steel frame bike back then.

He needs to fly out here and do the Climb to Kaiser then report back on how well that Scott is at flying up hills.

I said the bike was a good climber. Where (cite specifics) did I ever say anything remotely resembling 'flying up hills'?

I used a fat cap to boot and better vandals than visigoths.

Very light, very stiff, didn't like it so much at first. Then I switched from the Ksyrium to the Dura Ace wheels you see in that last photo, that really changed the ride, particularly on the chip/seal road surfaces up here. I like it after three rides, more each ride. It's hard not to like a bike this light, responsive and stiff, if yo can tolerate the ride. The D.A. rims have CF in them, and many of the reviews I read prior to purchase specifically cite their road shock absorption qualities. I agree. Distinct difference. Really like the feel of the bike now, but that ride is quite firm compared to my other bikes. But much more tolerable now, and the flip side is phenomenal handling, stability and the best climbing/sprinting bike I've ridden. Plus the bike only weighs 16 lbs 3 oz, that's very light for a Ultegra/clincher bicycle. The Ultegra components really do feel world class. VERY nice stuff indeed.

You know, a suspension seatpost might be nice to put on. Take it some of the road buzz and whatnot.

Strangely, I was going to comment on them when you posted the first picture -- I hate the Taos (used to have them on my commuter). They hold bottles fine, but sticking large bottles in from the side is needlessly awkward. I exclusively use the Specialized Rib cages on all my bikes.
