Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

NJ. Most NYC rides, ironically, do not take place in NYC (well, for the most part), as gsteinb alluded to.

Moreover, it would be a bit boring to post pictures of rain coming down on an abandoned airstrip.

Are there any roads or real bikeways (unlittered by pedestrians/joggers) in Manhattan where you can really dial it up for several miles? Or do you have to go to Central Park?

Westside Greenway (a.k.a. MUP)-Riverside Drive section either before 6AM or most hours during the winter. I know some people who book it even when there are pedestrians...

Central Park is generally terrible for cycling in my experience unless you ride there early in the morning (5-7AM)

i can't imagine riding in nyc is much fun. it certainly is no fun here in london. crowded cities with too many cars suck.

i'm a bit annoyed. last weekend it was scortching hot and tomorrow it looks like rain and it's been really windy and rainy for a couple of days. the good weather has gone for good me thinks.

I ride within Brooklyn during the weekdays. Prospect Park usually has a fast group ride in the mornings (for sure on Tues. & Th.) and Floyd Bennett Field (airstrip, which also hosts cycling races during the Summer) is good for training (a lot of crosswinds, etc.) on a closed loop.

Spoiler tells you the results of something before you get to watch it.

There were 2 threads, one of which said the results of stage 12 of the tour in the title. 10 Wheels, from what I understand, didn't have much sympathy for those that were upset.

So the obvious BF reaction is to call for his impeachment. Righto.

I'm a romantic dude. In addition to the nifty Specialized computer with altimeter, I just bought my wife an Ultegra crankset for her birthday tomorrow. Listening to the crappy FSA shifting this morning was enough. The FSA cranks have never properly worked with her Ultegra group.

She's a lucky woman.

I'm thinking there is some history there. Something about being kind of opinionated for a mod. This just pushed people over the edge.

Bikes: Something Canadian, something Italian, something American, and something German

This is what I hate about doing early rides. It's 3:30, I've been home since noon, and have done nothing. And now I don't want to ride again. Nothing to doooo.

Are you sure that's what she meant when she said she wanted a new crank?

I now have an urge to go to Home Depot and get some salad plants.

As you can see I have vast knowledge of vegetation.

She thinks her crank works just fine.

I ask her what she wants to do for her birthday and she says, ride to Jamestown/Ward. I'm a lucky dude.

If I quit racing I'd save so much money it'd be scary. But then again I'd spend all my time driving back and forth to my other house so it would probably end up being a wash.
