Heat pumps are not very efficient this far North.

i'm sure its doing fine on a day like today, its about 33 degrees out, which is well within the HP's range.

Grumpy McTrumpy 02-26-10 01:56 PM

IIRC it's a ground source heat pump, which means 55 degrees.

patentcad 02-26-10 01:59 PM

Air source heat pumps start losing efficiency big time below 40ºF.

patentcad 02-26-10 03:36 PM

It's snowing.

Again.

Have you looked into converting to ground source heat pump, or gas heat?

Might be able to get a nice tax break.

Way ahead of you. Looked into everything.

We got some flurries today, nothing stuck though. It always started to snow during my ride (to school, and then home from school) but never in between or after.

And is it feasible to convert?

No natural gas up here.

It's feasible to set up a lunar base if you have enough money. That same observation applies to geothermal heat pump installations, which we researched extensively. At least $35K here. We spent $10K to upgrade to a much more efficient boiler and a small mini split heat pump a/c for our finished basement. The larger heat pump was added later, really it's a new central a/c unit we added to replace the 12 year old one that was sort of giving up the ghost. Also a heat pump.

Sounds like you are on top of the HVAC issue and you have good taste in bikes.

This thread has exceeded even the Maximum Foo Threshold. Scientists are scrambling to study the possible ill effects of the rip in the Time-Space Continuum.

Grumpy deserves all the snow he gets after stealing post 1000 from me!!!!!
Binghamton and all their snow was such a big story it made the local news here in Gainsville last night.
Don't feel bad though, it's rough here too, it didn't get above 60 today and there's a frost warning for tonight.

All things considered though, I'd rather be back home riding my bike indoors.
Florida sux!
