Why is this thread still on page one?
Ironically I just arrived in Florida this afternoon, the locals are all *****ing about how bad the weather's been this winter. It's 33 right now in Gainsville. Might not get to 60 tomorrow. How they survive this I'll never know. |

Made it back to Ramsey (my Mom's house). Not Mt. Doom. Called up there, my plow guy Robbie says 'you'll never get up the road there are six foot drifts, I'm bringing the backhoe up there now.' This conversation took place @ midnight as I blasted up Rt. 17 in my RDX @ 40+ mph past all the hapless 2WD Car Freds. Since I'd never get up Mt. Doom, and there might not be a place to put the car safely on the side of the road, we're sleeping here. We'll go up @ 8AM when the roads are freshly cleared.
Concert was fine, Mr. Mayer may not be a guitar great, but he's getting there. Ooofaaa that kid can friggin play. 2nd song was a blistering version of 'Crossroads'. He is improving, and he was very good to begin with. I do expect Mt. Doom to look like the friggin Lhotse Face in the AM. My guess is that before this is done we'll have 24-30" of fresh snow on top of the foot that was there before. Pics tomorrow. Hell, I'll spend 3 hours digging out and we have a plow guy who does the driveway. That RDX is phenomenal in the snow. No worries at all. But it will not go up 18% grades through 3-6' snow drifts. Oh well. |

One reason we keep giving this guy Robbie our plowing contract (besides the fact that he does a great job for a great price) is that he has access to heavy construction equipment (like backhoes) in case we get seriously dumped. But in 13 years up there, he never needed the backhoe.
He's up on Mt. Doom widening the road with it as I write this in the wee hours. I'm telling you boys, it's total Snowmageddon in Orange County. We'll see it first hand when we drive up in the AM. |
This may sound stupid but can you take some pics. The worst it ever got in the London was 1 foot drifts and that used to close the city down. I know they've had it worse this year.

Outside my window in Brooklyn, this morning -
http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._5210981_n.jpg That's a hanging planter that was devoid of snow when I went to sleep. Roads should be nice with the 12" + on top of the 3" of slush from yesterday... |
At least the freaking storm went a little north and actually hit people who are used to this snow. We got the other two big storms this winter that were 20+ inches while the people in Boston and north were driving around on dry roads.
|
^^^ I'm from MN, and I can tell you that most in NYC are not used to this. The city is ill-equipped, in comparison, to handle this and most drivers in NYC think that the way to get their car unstuck is to pin the gas pedal to the floor...
|
We are used to it.
I didn't want this one though. I was starting to train outside again. I don't know how much snow we got, but when I plowed yesterday six inches had fallen. It looks like another foot fell last night. Today should be interesting, since there is a coating of slick ice-stuff underneath the snow on my hill driveway. The tractor slid almost all the way into the road. |

ahh the RDX has hit its limitations.
smart move staying put. its a mess out there, and still coming down. this is the heart attack inducing snow too, slushy, heavy wet stuff UNDER the light fluffy stuff, people with bad hearts will be going down out there today. stay safe everyone. |
Total. Friggin. Snowmageddon. Unbelievable. We EASILY got 30" on top of the foot that was there and it's still HAMMERING snow. A little taste of Buffalo right here in SE NY State. But we made it home and our plow guy Robbie got our road clear to the top of Mt. Doom. One lane, but still. God knows when he'll get to our driveway. Maybe tomorrow. I mean you have to see this. Pics later.
P.S. As long at the RDX doesn't bottom out in deep snow, it's amazing. 45+ mph on the snowpack on the empty highways driving up here this AM. The AWD system and stability control keep the car from fishtailing on slick roads. Try the same thing without those computerized systems and you would do 180's. Blew up here from Ramsey (30 miles) this morning with no problems, about 50 minutes. |
Just sayin'

My stepbrother has one of those vinyl/aluminum pole framework garages out in his driveway. That DID collapse last night.

You might want to start shoveling your roof, Pcad. A snow load like that could easily collapse the roof of most homes, (unless an A-frame).
|
This storm was weak. If it's physically impossible to get out of my house and go to work, that's when it's a real storm.
I'm looking outside my office window right now and the sidewalks are already clear; roads are slushy but pretty much clear as well. |
