Hey Pcad,

Don't you think it's accurate to characterize me as an "idea guy"?

But of course. You're an integral part of the BF Brain Trust.

That smacks of a backhanded compliment.

Oh well, at least I'm smart enough to pick up on that.

I got offered a job (again!) at a local bike store.. a competitor.. they pay more and I like the store more, but I'm terrified of what my boss will say if I moved this time of year. They need me now. Suggestions?

Pros to move:
Pay - schwag and college
Nice store
Closer
I shop there sometimes anyway

Cons:
Scared of current boss.

ugh! I'm definitely not ready to be an adult.

I think we're going to Greece this summer. If they're not out of business by then.

If you don't have a great relationship with your current boss, accept the job at the competing store!

I do though. I also need to add to the list of pros that I would no longer be cleaning (with a tooth brush) bikes during tune ups.

yo. I'm waiting for a streak of genius to come out of you regarding my situation.

Every ride over the same routes you've ridden for years on new bike is a revelation. Took the Scott up a pair of steep climbs (one after another) I've been riding for years today for the first time. Man that bike likes to climb. Cool.

move on...you should worry about your own life not someone else...though I feel the same way and feel tied to jobs with a stupid sense of duty.

mzeffex 04-27-10 08:08 PM

Yeah dude.. I currently work in a really small shop where if I left (I'd give him a couple weeks of course) I could hurt it. I just really do need the higher income for fun and college.. it's friggen expensive.

I'm worried he will either:
A.) flip out, yell, whatever
B.) offer to raise pay - I want to go to the new shop.

I'm expecting A.

No, we get along great. Just he flips out about little things, like forgetting the date on repair tags. That's my fault, but still. I'm just worried he is gonna get really pissed

Every one says to use butted spokes when building wheels. I just built a set, 105 hubs, Reflex clincher hoops , but with some straight gage DT spokes. They are the stiffest wheels I have ever been on. I love them. I cant flex them at all.

Well then it is going to be a tough decision. Welcome to the adult world.

Honestly, I'd go with the bigger shop - it's more likely to stay afloat in this ever-changing economy, and more dough is always better, especially with college coming up....

Just tell him straight up - you got offered a job at another shop and are considering it because of the higher pay. If he values you as an employee, he'll offer you a raise. If not, he'll let you go.

But don't fool yourself, working at a bike shop is not going to earn you enough to pay for college.

Current ones been around since mid 80s. He knows his stuff. It's really hard, but I need money more than the friendship of my boss. Wow, I sound like a dick.

That **** is expensive.... I'm making pretty good money right now as an SA, but I still couldn't cover all of r&b, books, and side cash if I go to CIM.
