Euphemize this. It was EPIC. That's a pathetic bike weenie attempt to put a positive spin on cycling weather that's so effing bad it's potentially hazardous to your friggin health. You know, floods, big electrical storms, friggin snow squalls that come out of nowhere, etc. The stuff I get to ride in several times a year, often not by choice. Today was actually by choice, which should tell you how stupid I really am.

It was a bit dangerous out there today. Oh well.

I'd take that BB off right now and check to see if water got in the bearings.

Why bother when the inevitable grinding and clicking noises will signal that for me? Then I give to Glenn and say 'can you guys fix this? And they do.

Grumpy McTrumpy 03-14-10 01:58 PM

my ride was not epic. it was just a solo sufferfest into a relentless cruel ***** of a headwind.

you said it, not me :) just kidding

in all seriousness, isn't this more of a detriment to training than just staying on the trainer for a few days? 1) you're killing your bike 2) you're running the risk of injury

Grumpy McTrumpy 03-14-10 02:00 PM

if I had a pistol in my trainer room I would have used it after 35 minutes yesterday. 2+ hours of headwind was better.

But I really am stupid for riding in some of this crap. I have no choice. I'll kill myself if I don't get the endorphins. I'd rather die on the road. You think I'm kidding? I am not. I don't care what anybody thinks. I don't do this for them.

But it is fun whining about it afterwards on BF.

Grumpy- been there done that, but the endorphins make me forget about the suffering an hour after the ride and I want to do it again. I totally agree, I wouldn't be able to handle that suffering indoors on a trainer. I don't know how guys like Gary do that. They are better at suffering than I'll ever be. More power to them, it pays off on race day.

HBO WWII series on the Pacific theater tonight. Looking forward to it. Same crew that brought you Band of Brothers.

Good start and I expect it to be a really good series as well if Band of Brothers is the model. I've been watching How to Make It In America and I can't really get into it but I keep giving it a chance; just seems like Entourage but on the east coast.

There was America's worst drivers on the travel channel around 10 - that was pretty hilarious/scary :D

I got caught in a thunderstorm yesterday, it was quite refreshing after 2 hours in 35-40 deg C.

On TV, I wish they'd make another series of The Wire. All other US TV pales into insignificance.

v70cat 03-16-10 07:56 AM

I am going out for a ride this afternoon, hope most of the puddles will be gone.

It is supposed to be high 50's to 60º and sunny here all week. 98% of all that snow is gone.

Yeah, they really set the bar high.

The Pacific just started and is pretty good too.

Quel 03-16-10 09:07 AM

At 4pm yesterday, an hour before I was going to leave and go riding, someone told me they needed a 5-6 hour job done by the next morning. What would be fair retribution for such an act?

patentcad 03-16-10 12:45 PM

Nice day. Hey Grumpy, much of that Black Dirt region we rode through when you visited here is a lake today. But the waters are receding and Black Meadow Road is a road again. This is the first day in a while I was dry and warm on a ride and the road wasn't a friggin salty wet mess. Don't worry, the TT bike made it sufficiently miserable nonetheless.

Is it too early to call the end of winter?

don't jinx it.

It's 15 degrees and sunny here today. I can't accept the possibility of more winter at the moment.
