Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Very nice bike and color pattern, love the colored hubs and the rims. Good Buy, enjoy and ride safe.

Hey, just ordered a 2009 Look w Ultegra.

Question: I tested a size small that was 51cm and it fit great. LBS wouldn't negotiate on price so I ordered from an online store. I ordered a size small. Just noticed that the online store lists the small as 53cm and the extra small as 51 (whereas I thought the extra small was 49cm) - see below. Not sure what to do now. Do you think this is a typo or would the online store have a different sizing? I am going to call them tomorrow but getting worried now!!

Bikes: Look 566 Medium, Giant TCR C1 Small

Hi marksru16. How tall are you? Mine is medium and I'm 5 feet 7 inches high. I bought a medium since my Giant is small and the seating tube was way high. Since I did not actually got fitted on one (never saw one in person before buying) and based on the web site measurements figured out Medium would work for me and it did after a formal fit-out (But with a 80mm stem, guess if would had bought a small the stem would had ended being around 100-110 mm). In your case you did test the small in a shop, so as long as the online store confirms you that it is a small size you should be ok.

I think I figured out what the confusion was for me. The small (which is a size 51cm) has a 53cm head tube. The website I ordered from just listed the head tube size, not the actual size of the frame, and so I thought the "small" was a 53cm and that the "extra small", which has a 51cm head tube, was a 51cm frame. I did test an actual size small at a LBS and it fit well. I'm 5"5 or so, with an inseam of 28 or so inches.

Can't wait to get it!!

If that is the case you ordered the right size (small)!! Did you got the black and white or the red and black version?

Bikes: How'd I get this many?

Just to add in - I'm 5'7.5" and have a 31" inseam. I ride the small, as I like a 53 cm TT and the small has a 52.6, the closest to that.

As for the color scheme, I really like the white/black the best. Red/black never look that good to me, maybe because the lizard-people in the first "V" series wore red and black.

I am a bit annoyed that so many companies now have black/white schemes, but I still like the LOOKs a lot. I like the 2010 font even better than the 09 as well, but not enough to swap out my frameset

Interesting. Seems that there is pretty good variation on "what fits" properly.

^Yeah, I think everyone feels different on any given bike, plus you need to take into account a few factors other than just height. I wasn't able to test ride the frameset so spent a lot of time figuring out my measurements and what size I needed.

I'm really happy with my size small. It fits me well using a 100mm stem and I have a reasonable amount of seat post showing, but nothing like 6' pros riding really small frames. I love the longer HT; my neck feels much better on this bike and I'm able to ride in the drops for long periods and feel great.

After riding a 54.5 TT for too damn long, I'm enjoying 53s, 52.6s, etc. Feels MUCH better for me in terms of reach and fit.

Well, I got my Look 566 in S (53cm TT) and it was too big! Took it to my LBS and after tinkering a bit we all agreed I need a smaller size. So I packed it up and sent it back to the place I ordered from (hopefully it gets there unscathed).

They have an XS that has a 51cm TT and my LBS said that's what I should have ordered in the first place given my short inseam. Guess I need to wait another 2 weeks to get my bike, and just praying that this time it fits right!

Well, that is weird (XS for a 5 feet 5 inches height) but if that is what works for you according to your LBS then that is the way to go. Who did you bought it from online?

Is it really weird? nayr497 is 5"7.5 and rides a small and those 2.5 inches are not insignificant, I think. I really couldn't ride the S, it was just too tall for me. I think the reason is that my inseam is very short - only about 28.5cm. My upper body was ok on it. My sense also is that you can do some more adjusting on a bike that is smaller, but not a whole lot if it is too big.

Hi Marksru16, I understand. Nature makes us all different, you can adjust a lot of things on a bike by lowering / raisin or moving back and forth the seat, changing the crank length, changing the stem size, etch but the only way you could reduce the standover size would be by placing smaller rims (650 versus 700) which is not such a good idea. In my case standover was not an issue (I'm like 31 inches) and the fitter was able to make the medium worked for me by making a few adjustments and installing a shorter stem (80mm, he said 90mm would work but I wanted a more relax posture) but he did say that a small would had provided a fit with a "regular or typical" stem size (100mm and above). I hope you get your XS soon! Enjoy!!

Hi Marksru16, how are you doing with your XS frame? I rode today my first long ride (41 miles) on the Look 566 and it was great!! My friends were asking me all morning how does it compare to my old Giant TCR-C1 and have to say I felt a lot more comfortable and strong!

Did a good amount of riding this weekend (for me, that is). Love the bike, although don't have a lot to compare it to. Very happy with the purchase, it was pretty comfortable for 2-3 hours of first ride of the season. Bike was smooth and wasn't getting jarred at all, acceleration was good, responsive. Shifting didn't feel great and chain slipped once or twice, which makes me think it needs an initial tune up (I road it out of the box) which I am getting for $70 on Thursday. But very happy with my purchase and looking forward to riding season!

That's great!! $70 for shifters adjustment sounds really high IMO or are you referring to a full fitting? (Price would make sense for that, though)?

You would be a good candidate for NOT buying stuff on the internet

The $70 is for a full tune up of everything. Maybe it is too much, I don't know. But I'm not going to stress about it. I'm happy to have them do it as long as they do a good job, and I think they will.

Not sure why I'm a good candidate for not buying on internet. The MSRP on the bike was $3,300 plus tax. I got it for $2,200 even. I took it to a LBS for a professional fitting for $60, now a full tune up for $70. I'm pretty sure I came out ahead.

I remain completely unconvinced that buying from an LBS is important. To me, it seems like a way for manufacturers and bike shops to keep prices high by limiting competition. I give my LBS a certain level of business on accessories, etc. so that they know me and will hopefully provide good service if I need it. But I see no reason at all to pay the premiums they ask for.

Hi Mark, I do think too that you did great on the price of the bike!! $1100 in savings, I doubt any LBS will give you that discount for a brand new bike, not even on a last year model!! You will have to re-adjust the cables tension after a couple of hundred miles again anyway as the cables strech a little bit, so it's good to have a relationship with a local LBS that you can trust.

Enjoy!

Hi there,

Can anyone help me with headsets for the Look 566? I posted elsewhere on the boards for this topic but my problem is I can't get the fork to stop shaking with a Ritchey Pro integrated headset. And the top cap of the headset keeps chipping the paintwork on the top of the tube. :-(

Headset for Look 566?

Hi there,

Can anyone help me with headsets for the Look 566? I posted more detail elsewhere before I discovered this thread (https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ook-566-Origin).

My problem is I can't get the fork to stop shaking with a Ritchey Pro integrated headset. And the top cap of the headset keeps chipping the paintwork on the top of the tube.
