Hmm, much appreciation! To be honest, I have no clue if it's a BB30 or adapted. This bike is completely stock from when I bought it, 2012 CAAD10 3. I haven't played with anything, at least not yet.

It's definitely BB30, even says so on the bottom of your frame there.

sounds like it was installed incorrectly, don't ride it. if you bought it at a shop, take it back and make them re-install the crank.

There is a specific way the bearings have to be placed in there and there is a specific type of Loctite that needs to applied too...hopefully someone here knows the specifics and can walk you through the way the crank and bearings should be done!

Took it back to the shop today and had the mechanic and sales guy ride it. They both said that it performs as it should and didn't hear anything out of the ordinary. I was able to point it out to them a couple times while on the trainer but they didn't think BB. They said it would make more of a creak than the crack/pop sound.

Advice was to keep riding it until it is "broken in." I'll see what happens - If it continues to get worse I guess I'll take it to a different LBS to have it looked at.

I can hear it, but if it ain't chain rub, check to see the rear derailleur is set up properly. If the tension on the cable is wrong, there will be a sound that sounds similar to chain rub as the chain skips over the pulleys if the tension isn't set correctly.

Hello all.

I've noticed my bike has started making the sound of chain rub, despite there being no chain rub. To illustrate my point, I shot a quick video of me in a range of gears while in the big ring. I know it's not the best, I just wanted to try and capture the sound.

Is this a BB problem?

I appreciate it if you took the time to listen for a bit and respond! I just want my bike to last. It was an investment.

It's something to do with your rear wheel - the give away is that the frequency of the knocking sound increases as you move up the cassette - i.e. it tracks speed - and it doesn't seem to track cadence which it should do if it was a BB issue.

Do you still have the dork disk? Is your wheel out of true rubbing something? Does that noise continue if you coast?

In all honesty, I think that is a great deal and you should jump on it.

Out of true was a thought I considered. When the noise first started, it sounded like it was rubbing the brake every rotation, but it was not.

The dork disk is not on now.

A few other q's:

Does it make this noise on the road or just on the trainer?

Do you have a spoke magnet that's twisted out of plane and is hitting something? A valve nut that's still on that might be loose?

deep sky's comment is also a good one - if your RD needs some adjustment with the barrel adjuster to get better alignment with the cogs?

Lots of options

They all say that. It's a decal.

DerHoggz 03-10-13 11:20 PM

Is it possible to just get a CAAD10 frame?

He's lying. You should give me the name and number of this guy and I will make sure I call him about this rip off. ;)
that's a heck of a deal even if it was used it would still be a good deal.

I'll have it out on the road next week. I'll try to get it out this week just to listen for the sound.

I do not have a spoke magnet.

May you please explain the loose valve nut? Both valves are currently closed.

The RD definitely needs some adjustment. I've watched several videos, but I'll save it for the shop tune-up. The shifting down is not snappy, in fact it even lags several seconds. In some instances I have to shift up and then back down.

I like that color scheme a lot! Not something you see everyday.

Here's mine.. 4 miles before my first flat.

Looking at the picture makes me realize I want black crank arms..

Ohmannuel 03-11-13 09:01 AM

for sure, a great color scheme, it deserves black crank arms.

Obviously used? Sounds a little high to me but it would depend on the condition of the bike and wheels but as a rule of thumb I figure on half the value of a new.

Jump on it.

I just bought a CAAD10 but I almost went with the CAAD8 just because I like their paint schemes better. Nice looking bike.

Thats funny.. when I bought this I was really tempted to go for the CAAD10 because of the team colors, I just couldn't justify the price because of that.
There was a guy in the store who had an older CAAD8 - all black and he commented on how nice mine looked which made me feel good. I don't usually like red but theres just enough on here that I like it..

Yes, but only in certain colors. Talk to your LBS, they can hook you up if they are a Cannondale dealer.

qcpmsame 03-12-13 05:52 AM

Saw a '12 CAAD 10 frame, in the Gulf Oil Racing colourway, on eBay last week. If the LBS Cannondale can't find one, they can be hard to find with their sales numbers, eBay or CL may be the place to find one. Watch out for stolen bikes that have been stripped and flipped.
