Fwiw, I sold my mtb to buy it. Not really into mtb-ing anymore and the X seemed like the perfect all around bike.

EDIT: btw, if OSX is Macs "Operating System version 10" does that mean that a CAADX is a CAAD 10? :)

Excellent decision then! I don't rip up trails, but I sure think it's a fun way to blow off stem at college. We don't have many rideable roads, unless you're training for a Roubaix, but we do have several trail systems. None of them are smooth enough to take a cyclocross bike on.

Hopefully the CAADX - 105 will have disc brakes next year. If so, that'll probably be my route. Unless I can get a CAADX - Disc Ultegra for cheap once the 2014s are out.

I was going to get the 105 and just upgrade the brakes but got a good deal on the disc. I think you would be plenty happy with the 105 but you might look into some TRP brakes as the stock ones didn't seem to hardly work. With TRPs or similar I think it would be as good as the disc as the stock discs aren't amazing either.

I put my Caad 9 up on Craigslist - I may throw it up on eBay in a few weeks if I cant' sell it locally. I really don't need it anymore.

The frame is disc compatible? And won't I need a new set of wheels?

Just some newbie questions. The cyclocross bike would certainly influence training in my college town with all of these gravel roads. I don't feel like I need the Ultegra on the CAADX either.

I don't think the 105 has the the mounts on the frame and fork, but i could be wrong. If you already have a road bike why not just get a hardtail MTB? From your previous post it seems like the best option, but maybe i just misread post about trails to rough for CX bike.

Are you referring to the 105 frame? I don't think there are mounts for disc but I doubt there is much to be gained by going disc anyway. Good rim brakes are going to work as well as the mediocre cable disc on the Ultegra. The real benefit of disc is in muddy conditions. I didn't need disc either it's just what worked out.

Hi KP388, nice bike you have there :thumb: and welcome to the CULT! and to BF`s. If you get a chance could you take a picture of the other side. I like that color scheme.

Anyone with a later model CAAD have any issues with their BB30? I picked up a 2012 CAAD10 5 with FSA Gossamer at the end of the season and I took it out today for only the 2nd time since I got it and am getting some clicking when out of the saddle and only when pushing down on the left pedal. It's at almost any intensity, is a distinct click (not creak) and the pattern is somewhat inconsistent. It's tough to pin down since I can only create the sound when on the bike. So basically it's an assumption based on some of the issues I've heard from others.

THSdrummer 03-09-13 06:17 PM

Interesting question, dmagic17. I have noticed my bike makes some funny noises when I'm on the trainer and spinning fairly easy. I'm taking my bike in for a tune-up in about a week, so hopefully it can get sorted out.

It also sounds like the chain is rubbing on the front derailleur even when I'm in the middle of the cassette.

sounds like it was installed incorrectly, don't ride it. if you bought it at a shop, take it back and make them re-install the crank.

There is a specific way the bearings have to be placed in there and there is a specific type of Loctite that needs to applied too...hopefully someone here knows the specifics and can walk you through the way the crank and bearings should be done!

I plan to take it for a longer ride tomorrow and try to get a better sense of what it is and what makes it tick. If I can't solve it I'll take it back to where I got it. The problem is the place is more of a general sporting goods store with a bike section, rather than a dedicated LBS so I'm not sure how knowledgeable their staff is on BB issues.

@Pinkbullet. Yeah, there's a little bit of white on the saddle and I had that tape lying around... When it gets dirty I'll probably put some black on... I think it actually looks ok with the white too.

@dmagic. The same thing just happened to me. My bike was fine until I had the new crank installed. I took it for a 30mile ride and it was fine but a few days later it started making an awful noise similar to chain rub but not. It's back in the shop now, I'll let you know how it goes.

Looking to buy a CAAD10 (I usually ride track frame fixed bikes), Does this seem like a decent deal?:
2012 CAAD10 Ultegra Sz60 (NEW)
Mavic Cosmic Carbone wheelset
Fizik Seat
Carbon seat post
Look clipless pedals
$2500

I'd appreciate an update as well. I've noticed a sound similar to chain rub, but it still happens on occasion when I'm in the middle of the cassette.

I'm taking my bike to my LBS for a free tune-up and hopefully solve this issue. I hope they can turn it around fast. Group rides start up, and I don't want to miss any over spring break.

Obviously used? Sounds a little high to me but it would depend on the condition of the bike and wheels but as a rule of thumb I figure on half the value of a new.

I paid almost $1500 for my 2012 rival, and that was completely stock. You have to figure if the ultrgra components and the extra upgrades are worth it to you. I would attempt to talk him down a bit, but that's what I always do. lol

THSdrummer 03-10-13 01:49 PM

Hello all.

I've noticed my bike has started making the sound of chain rub, despite there being no chain rub. To illustrate my point, I shot a quick video of me in a range of gears while in the big ring. I know it's not the best, I just wanted to try and capture the sound.

Is this a BB problem?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2Jb-T0O270

I appreciate it if you took the time to listen for a bit and respond! I just want my bike to last. It was an investment.

Nagrom_ 03-10-13 02:12 PM

I can't really hear anything other than the buzz from the trainer. Cool angle though.

Are you on BB30 or have you adapted it to something else? The trademark creak of BB30 is a true creak. Sounds like a rusty door hinge. I didn't hear anything like that in the video.

It sounds like chain rub, but there is no chain rub. It definitely doesn't sound like a creaky door, so that's good.

Hmm, much appreciation! To be honest, I have no clue if it's a BB30 or adapted. This bike is completely stock from when I bought it, 2012 CAAD10 3. I haven't played with anything, at least not yet.
