Not my bike or pictures. This happened in my area when a bike rear ended this CAAD in a group ride with the CAAD stopping for a yellow light and those behind not stopping for the yellow light - trips to the ER were involved. The previous owner of the CAAD had a picture of it from "before" he sold it.

Wow. That doesn't explain the front end damage. Hope everyone's OK.

I would've bought it right there if it weren't for wanting to build it up myself.

What I really need are wheelset suggestions... looking to spend $500-$700 for now, just to get rolling.

I'm not racing, so I don't think I really need carbon clinchers... something mostly for climbing/training..

I was thinking about mavic ksyriums or something hand built?

any ideas?

Forget the Mavics. Factory built, I'd suggest Campy Zondas. You can get them for less than $400 shipped from wiggle. Hand built, look at H Plus Son archetypes laced to something like a BHS or novatec hub, should be well within your price range.

I have a set of wheels. Waiting for BB30 bearings to come.

That is incorrect. The rider on the cadd was the person that did not stop. he was the person that hit the Stopped. Rider. The person he hit end up with a broken scapula, stitches in the lip and busted teeth. He was on a spec tarmac that was trashed. This another guy that was hit got his BMC & Zipp wheels trashed as well as a fractured vertebra and good bump on the head. Leason would be to always pay attention to the lights and dont try and run stale yellows in a big fast group.

That's what happens when you rely on second, third, fourth, hand information. And I completely agree with your lesson - I so don't get why groups insist on blowing through stale yellow lights and yell at the people stopping and doing the right thing. Cars certainly do it too, but they aren't following each other as close as bikes in a group ride.

Fit dialed in. Need to chop the steerer and possibly get a smaller dust cover to go down another 5mm. Sorry for the ****ty cell phone pic.

So, I recently picked up a '12 CAAD10 frame. For some reason the previous owner was using an Ultegra crankset that is not BB30. The crankset didn't come with the frame but the bottom bracket did. I don't know why you would use something non BB30, but he did. I'm on a fairly tight budget so I was looking at the BB30 FSA Gossamer. But now with this Ultegra bottom bracket already installed should I just look for a crankset that fits it? Is going BB30 worth it?

I've got a new FSA Gossamer Pro compact and chain I too off my CAAD I'd sell cheap if you find a BB.

still dig it.

are those inline barrel adjusters i'm spotting by the headtube? are those necessary with a force build, or just convenient? i know Nagrom has them.. just trying to list out/piece together my build.

i installed one on the front derailleur cable (rival) for the sole reason of tightening that cable and stopping it from rattling against the downtube on super rough roads. Don't see it necessary on the RD since there is an adjuster on the derailleur itself.

Looks good. Lose the Jockpack Rustle sticker and you'll be golden.
Just kid.
My tape is green!

WHAT THE HELL.

There seem to be so many posts in this thread about BB30 creaking problems, but no definitive answers.

Is it all installation error? Is the BB30 bottom bracket worth it? Sometimes I put out massive amounts of torque.

Nerull 06-09-13 10:40 AM

No definitive answers except the one everyone always gives every time someone asks this question, and Cannondale recommends in their tech docs.

Reinstall with Loctite 609.

hmarks 06-09-13 07:55 PM

so, IF the BB30 is installed CORRECTLY, it is worth it.

e_guevara 06-09-13 08:21 PM

Yes.

But cleaning and reinstallation is necessary every a thousand or so miles to prevent creaking. YMMV.

hmarks 06-09-13 09:03 PM

wow, really? only 1,000 miles? that's like a month's worth of riding!

You get 12,000 mile years? At least 30+ miles a day?

I've gotten about 3k miles on my BB30, creak free.
Proper installation is key.

probably not quite 12k miles, but it's not hard to hit 250 miles a week with all the weekly night group rides in LA.

can anyone recommend a shop in the LA area that can do a proper installation of a BB30 crankset?

It depends on how hard you are on the cranks/BB.

Basically, it can be from any (or a combination of) the following:
- your riding style
- where you ride
- how often you ride
- your maintenance plan

I've said in a previous post that I do a lot of pedal stands during climbs and also a lot of group sprints that flex the crank and BB area. I average around 200 to 300 km (124 to 186 mi) of riding per week on dry pavement. I start to notice some minor creaking in about two months usually when I power up on a climb.
