It depends on how hard you are on the cranks/BB.

Basically, it can be from any (or a combination of) the following:
- your riding style
- where you ride
- how often you ride
- your maintenance plan

I've said in a previous post that I do a lot of pedal stands during climbs and also a lot of group sprints that flex the crank and BB area. I average around 200 to 300 km (124 to 186 mi) of riding per week on dry pavement. I start to notice some minor creaking in about two months usually when I power up on a climb.

I mostly ride in the mountains here and occasionally like to tackle some 30%+ grade streets. Is the creaking something that can be lived with by just ignoring the sound?

Well, new BB30 bearings FINALLY came today (longest weekend ever). Just finished it up tonight and was able to snap some pics before the sun went down. Stoked!

Yes, it's bearable, generally only noticeable when stressing the crank/BB. It's not that bad as it seems.

Nice bike and welcome to the cult.

Rotate your bars a little, the drops should be parallel (or near to it) to the ground. If the hoods seem too near when you move it up after rotating the bars, you need a longer stem. Check your fit.

Thanks. I still need to get everything fitted correctly this week.

Awaiting photographic evidence. The competition is pretty fierce around here.

Question for the CAADites.

I'd like to lower my handlebars a bit as I've gotten comfortable with the initial position the shop fit me at. C'Dale says no spacers on top, but how important is that? can I get away with one or two without compromising anything? I'm not sure I want to take it in and have the shop lop off another 5mm or steerer tube in case I have issues going lower.

iFold 06-12-13 08:24 PM

my lbs has advised me not to go lower than 2cm. my current setp up is 1cm lower (from top with 2 5mm spacers).

iFold 06-12-13 08:56 PM

btw, I'm currently running 28mm tires on my bike with no problem yet very comfortable.

ClydesMoose 06-12-13 09:13 PM

Ok, I dropped 3. So that *should* be ok yeah?

I'll admit, you're doing pretty well for yourself. Bonus points for the loafers. But still, you're doing too much. Is that not a Rapha vest? Are those not road pedals? Are those legs not shaved?

Get back to me with an FSA triple crank, lumberjack socks w/ leg hair, and a steertube extension/riser stem to approximately triple your stack height. Plus, ditch that dorky spandex. Real Freds ride in Dad Shorts. Then we can talk.

To be honest, this was debated a few pages back (and I was too lazy to read all of it). From what I gathered: not having a spacer and having one spacer both provide benefits. Riding it for a while with one or two spacers above isn't terrible.

I've been riding mine with two 5mm spacers on top (initial sizing put 1 spacer on top - I moved another on top to move to a lower position).

SEATPOST CLAMP DILEMMA

So my frame came without a seatpost clamp and it turns out that finding the correct clamp is extremely difficult. Cannondale uses a clamp size of 30.9mm. I went to the LBS and the dude called Cannondale and they can get him the correct clamp in two months!

On ebay, there are options for a 30mm clamp or a 31mm clamp. The seller of the 30mm clamp claims it will work, but it will have to be bent. The 31mm clamp is only .1mm bigger than what's needed, but is this enough to cause slipping?

What is my best option?

Please advise.

Oops. Those are out of stock. The green one is in stock though. I'd get this for the time being, and wait for a proper restock in a color you want http://www.cannondaleexperts.com/Can...GRN_p_931.html

Burn, haha. Jim's legs are tree trunks and add to the illusion... at least that's what I tell myself to make the pain go away.
