I've changed my mind on what wheels I want to get built... Yet again. Lol. I've found a more affordable alternative to the set up I previously wanted which still give me the same results, from what I've read anyway.

- Pacenti SL23 Rims (32/32)
- Campagnolo Record Hubs
- Sapim CX Rays
- Fulcrum/Campy FreeHub body for SRAM/Shimano Cassette ( http://www.modernbike.com/itemgroup.asp?IGPK=2126203002)

But I've been a bit confused on whether or not this ( http://www.modernbike.com/itemgroup.asp?IGPK=2126203002 ) will work. So if anyone is super knowledgeable on wheels and stuff and is willing to help me out, that'd be great.

I have to admit, I know little about wheels. I just know what I want to fit my needs right now.

What I have been told, is the Campagnolo hubs need a lot of servicing, or at least cleaning. The mechanic I talk wheels with says he wants to ride a pair really bad, it's his ideal hub, but doesn't want to spend the time servicing them after each ride. He does great work though. I'm not saying he couldn't do it, but being the only mechanic in town might lend him to being a little busier than most.

The Sapim CX Rays are some great spokes. That's one of the spokes I'm considering. Great price to weight ratio when compared with other similar spokes.

Really? I've read differently about those hubs. People say they're bullet proof and are easy to maintain and such.

Perhaps it was a different Campagnolo hub the mechanic was talking about...? He says they ride beautifully though. If I bought Campagnolo hubs it would just be the logical next step to go for a Campagnolo group set. If only, if only...

Been filling the thread lately but I guess this is the place to do it. Terrible quality sorry.

around what time will cannondale release 2014 caad10?

seymour1910 08-01-13 06:40 AM

Around September

So, I guess I'm back to wanting CK hubs for the CAAD but I'm stuck between the ever so popular color, red, or pink hubs. I'm really intrigued at the thought of pink hubs on an all black bike.

The spoke nipples and little bits like cable ends....are those pink or Red? I don't have the best eye's. Look red to me, so stay with that theme. I know the red CK hubs are popular but your bike is not the most common bike on the road if we're talking any where from Richmond down to the hampton roads area. A lot of people have moved to the CAAD10, but those that still have their CAAD9's this color scheme is not what I usually see.

In the case that I do get the CK hubs, it will be a whole new wheelset. So, the nipples would be black and I plan on changing the cable ends to black, as well as the brake adjuster knobs. (I actually have no idea what those are called. Lol.) In that case, would the Pink be subtle enough to not be obnoxious? I would really like my bike to be "different," I guess you could say. Everyone has the black and red theme on their bike and I'd like to be able to differ myself from that. Lol. And if I had the red hubs and in the future, I got a bike with blue accents or green accents. I'll either look really patriotic or look like a Christmas bike. :p (Maybe I'm just coming up with reasons to get the pink hub now. Hahaha.)

Oh, and a buddy of mine has the same frame with red CK hubs laced to HED Belgiums. We're gonna look like twins. Lol.

seymour1910 08-02-13 08:16 AM

In that case if you're going all black with pinks hubs it'll be pretty sweet. I say go for it. If I had that frame I would want lime green myself, does CK have a lime green option?

oh, and if you get pink hubs get pink bar end plugs. and leave it at that.

I dig the bike, especially since it isn't some big $ carbon bike. You have done a nice job with it. It also helps that you have a very aggressive set up, that will help most bikes. Red or pink hubs would look good. Nagrom has an all black caad10 with red hubs, you can search through a couple pages back and see what that would look like. I think pink would look good if done right. pink hubs and dare I say pink bartape? I'd probably keep it simple though and have just pink hubs while keeping all else black.

As for lime green hubs, no they dont unless they have some sort of special edition, but it is not a regular option in the R45 hub choice.

K. Legaspi 08-02-13 08:36 AM

Awesome, guys. Thanks! I think I'll do pink. I just wanted to make sure that the pink hubs on all black is subtle and not obnoxious like, "HEY! LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT MY BIKE!" I'd really hate that. Lol. I just think the pink would stand out in a good way where people will see that I have pink hubs and say, "Oh, he has a custom built wheelset." Hopefully that's how it will turn out. Lol. :p

seymour1910 08-02-13 08:42 AM

It's going to look good, make sure you share it once it's all done and installed. and hey, your bike will really be a big hit come October.

K. Legaspi 08-02-13 08:46 AM

I definitely will! Thanks for your honest opinions. :thumb:

mrjim 08-02-13 09:19 AM

Hah, I hate to be a downer on all the completely valid comments and opinions so far so please only take mine with a grain of salt.

When I look at your bike as it is now, I think wow that's a sweet B/W build with subtle hints of grey/sliver in there. I rarely think this but in a few cases I find grey/silver to be an awesome "accent color"; that's how I feel with your bike. If it were me, I'd stick with black or dark grey hubs. I'd also try to seek out some dark grey/silver cable ends and black bar end plugs.

Edit: Actually on closer inspection I see that the end plugs are already black. Nice. I'm loving the dark grey bar tape though.

K. Legaspi 08-02-13 10:24 AM

The bar tape is actually black. :( I think the lighting is making them appear to be gray. Haha.

seymour1910 08-02-13 10:54 AM

Lizard skins tape never looks gray :innocent:

Great Picture ! And Bike ! :)
A lot of nice upgrades !

Any of my CAAD10 brethren riding a triple crankset? I'm guessing I'm a unicorn among CAAD owners.

kunfuzion 08-03-13 08:54 PM

Thank you. :)

I think the compact crank as pretty much wiped out the triple crank

No doubt, and we could have 100 pages of debate on it. ;) I personally like the triple much better. I won't go into details, as it would derail this thread.

Specific to the CAAD10, outside using an adapter (like I do), I only know of one triple BB30 crank (the FSA Energy). I didn't even know that model existed until I looked on some UK pages - I don't think they even tried to market it here in the US.

NWS Alpine 08-04-13 12:22 PM

Also WiFLi with large range cassette wipes out the need for a triple
