Just saw this auction on ebay : Cannondale Caad 9 Hand Made in USA 58 Frame Set | eBay

Cannondale CAAD9 frame new with fork and headset for $569.68

Is it at good price for this frameset as new?

Thanks

It seems like a fair price for a frame that was only test ridden for a short time. I purchased my CAAD9-1 frame for $450 a few years ago and they still seem to be going for a little under that price used on eBay nowadays. That being said, I recall a used CAAD9-1 frame that went for approximately $700 last year which was wildly overpriced so in that respect $569 is reasonable. Shipping is going to be really expensive however.

Picked up my shiny new CAAD10 5 in San Francisco this weekend, 44cm women's frame. This is from the 30 seconds that it actually stays clean and white (right after I wash it). Sorry about the wall, it was the best I could find in my dorm.

Haven't changed anything yet, just added a bottle cage. When the bar tape gets too dirty, I'll replace that and the saddle with black.

I took it out for its first spin yesterday (my first century, as well) from UCSB up to Ojai and back. The bottom bracket started creaking really loudly around the 40th mile, so I took it to a shop in Ojai and they straightened it out, told me my LBS up north put it together too tight or something. Everything else is basically perfect, such a smooth ride. And the right size, for once.

Congrats on the bike, and welcome to the Cult. I know yo had been waiting for a while. Good thing you are off that over sized Specialized. Any questions you have about your CAAD can get answered here. Ride it and enjoy it.

Value is in the eye of the beholder. I paid $750US for a Caad9 frame and fork last year, a Womens specific model, small size, in pristine condition. Also bought a 58cm Caad8 Optimo frame & fork (matte black) the year before for $275, also in mint condition. Both were great deals in MY mind.

Edit: Photos added.

Took the CAAD for a few rides since I've gotten it and had a couple of thoughts. The CAAD10 is not harsh at all, in fact it's on par with my old steel Trek in comfort, I absolutely love it. It's also stiff where you need it, the power transfer is astonishing, you stomp on the pedals and it GOES. And for a final thought, white bar tape is nice, but after a measly 50 miles it's already looking pretty bad. Darker bar tape is going to be coming soon.

Oh, and the Prologo Kappa Evo saddle is hard as hell, hope it breaks in soon or I'm gonna have to change that.

I LOVE this thing!!!

Here's a blurry potato pic on the first ride. Had to stop because my toes were numb from the cold (neglected to wear my shoe covers... whoops).

Still waiting on new bar tape, I reused my old rolls so it looks jank and is way short. I also need to finish sanding the fork. It's a SuperSix Evo fork and I saved 140g with it, not too shabby.

this thing looks great man. classic bars , -17 , etc. U got alot of the stuff checked off! color match the fork, and new tape, and this thing will rule more.

You guys think the wider rear triangle makes a difference in stiffness?

with all materials the same, it does. but is it noticeable? probably not.

Change it. Now. It's a torture device. I've never sat on anything so uncomfortable in my life.

I run Prologo Scratch Pro saddles on all three bikes and they are fantastic - even for 200Km+ rides - dunno where they went wrong with the Kappa version???

Team Sarcasm 01-26-15 11:44 PM

Cannondale probably picked a "eh" saddle to keep costs down.

An "eh" saddle I could handle.

They picked an "AAAAAARRRRGHGGGHHH!" saddle.

Also, I have a Kappa on my Fuji and I love it. I've ridden metric centuries on it and had no complaints afterward.

After a few more rides the Kappa Evo hasn't been an issue. It was ever so slightly nose-up when I rode it the first time, I tilted it down probably .5-1 degree and it's all good. Rode ~30 miles in the cold the other day and never even thought about the saddle (which is good).

And a small update, even after some fiddling/cleaning and whatnot, I do not like the stock rotors that come on the CAAD10 Disc. I am going to likely swap them out for the SRAM Centerlines that match the Rival 22 Hydro Disc group. The stock rotors are OK until you really squeeze, then they sound and feel terrible. Nothing I've done has made them any smoother for braking. I will keep trying, but I've pretty much given up on them.

They do work really well, but yeah, the rough feel isn't great.

Well... the test ride didn't go well. There was some kind of problem with the rear derailleur. Everytime I shifted to a smaller cog there was a loud clunk and a noticable lash in the pedals. I did not join The Cult this afternoon.

falconsusi 01-31-15 08:36 PM

I just got my road bike - Cannondale synapse 5 105 - last September. After loosing weight and getting into better shape (1300 miles later) I am looking towards my next bike. I am researching the CAAD10 5 105. Womens. I really want one and I am going to start saving now for this Christmas :giver:

That's a bummer. Have you ridden with SRAM setups before? I know I'm still getting used to the SRAM "clunk" they have. I like it, just takes some getting used to.

Don't let a shoddy tune up disuade you, clunky shifts can be fixed. Have you tried any other CAAD10 bikes?

I tried a Super Six Ultegra mechanical and I didn't like the sloppy way the brake levers moved on both axes at the same time. I tried a 2012 CAAD10 Black Inc. with Ultegra Di2, and I LOVED the way that one shifted. (not so much the outdated version of Di2 or the price they were asking) The framset is great, the SRAM clunk was off-putting, though.

Yup I hear ya, I was on the fence between a 2014 SuperSix Ultegra and my CAAD disc but didn't like how the brake levers moved on the SS. The SRAM "clunk" is taking some getting used to, but I do like the positive feedback compared to the Shimano setups.

Muffin Man 02-01-15 01:54 AM

I love that Sram clunk.

I assembled this leftover 2013 last night. Ice, salt and snow is on the ground here, so I haven't ridden it yet. My first Cannondale.

You may be better off trying to find an ebay women's specific frame and just swapping your components over.

or just ride the synapse, which are great bikes in their own right. You likely won't notice a huge change moving to the CAAD10 other than the quickness of steering

Super excited today! Upgrade to Ultegra Groups complete! New bar tape too, since I was told my old bar tape was like a dirty wet sock which a wet dog rolled over! LOL.

FWIW, I wasn't too happy with the way my CAAD 10 5 (shimano 105) shifted when I first rode it, but a little bit of tuning and it's like butter.

macca33 02-06-15 05:01 AM

Those types of issues are ALL to do with the shop / mechanic and little to do with the quality of the groupset....

This is one of the reasons test rides are over-rated. You are more likely to make setup the determining factor rather than fit. Most shops hire kids rather than experienced mechanics, so setup can be problematic. Once you are at the 105 level and higher, a well tuned bike will shift pretty much the same from there up. Even the newest version of Tiagra shifts pretty good if adjusted properly. Glad you guys are happy cult followers now.

The fit was fine, and they tuned it up between rides. I just couldn't abide the harsh jerk in the pedals when shifting gears.
