Question, how much would a CAAD10 frameset cost me?

I was quoted "about $900" from my LBS.
This is a long ongoing saga that began last year when I decided to downsize my bike collection. The odd man out was my Caad9, I wasn't racing and I had 3 carbon fiber bikes which was more than enough for the riding I was doing.
Some kid got a smoking deal right here in the Marketplace, and an even better deal with the Kysirum Elites I tossed in for another couple a hundred.
This November when I began my training for 2011, trying to figure out my goals for the year, I realized I wanted to race again.
Which meant the odd man out was then the Roubaix SL. My idea was to remove the DA7800 group set and put them on a Caad10 frame.
I checked with the shop and that's where they quoted me the $900 for the frame. And for about $1000 more I could get a complete bike with Ultegra 6700.
Went over the specs of the bike, everything about it was better than my original Caad9 including the saddle, fork, wheels, and of course the 6700 (vs. the 105).
For me the only disapointment with the Caad10 3 is the Askium (sp?) wheels.
I'm going to see if I can work a deal to upgrade to something better.
Or just take the wheels and see if I can sell them and use one of my existing sets.
This is the bike - will look for some lime green tires and green bar tape to match the color sceme.
(by the way I'm being told there's a couple weeks delay with the shop getting the bike, I hope this doesn't turn into a couple of months).

nice CAAD there, I'd really like to see pics of the real thing when it comes in.

p.s. look on PBK for the green tires

I think Michelin P3Rs come in a green that will work.
Not sure if it's going to be as easy finding matching bar tape.

And yes, there'll be pictures. Lots of pictures :D

If I apply any power at all shifting from big chainring to small, it's a guaranteed Andy Schleck. I've changed the cable tension and taken it to my wrench who's more than capable, no dice. Short term fix has been a K-Edge chain catcher, long term is a swap to Rival.

Makes me glad I spent the extra money for Rival up front.

Just been told that blacks are sold out. I don't want to wait.
I'm thinking about going back to plan "A"...Dura-Ace 7800s.

Check the uk website, they have different inventory. Also I got mine with included skewers which was nice. If you really have your heart set on black, id trade you for red.

This is by far the best monochromatic black color scheme I have ever seen on any bike ever...2011 CAAD10-1

My 2,000th Post.

I just wanted to post it on what I think is my best thread (and probably the one that will outlive me here).
2,000 posts on a cool bike forums with great moderators who called me out when I was wrong without an ounce of snobbery.

Thanks BF.

I wonder if you can buy just the frameset for that black anodized version. Looks great. Not so "look at me" as the other options.

Do you mean for the CAAD10?

SkyeC 01-22-11 07:50 PM

Sorry, yes. The frameset that's available as the CAAD10-1.

Just got a CAAD9-6 on layaway. Sooo stoked.
Aside from thinking of all the riding I'm going to do, I'm already daydream nation on what upgrades to throw on it.

I've been thinking of a good solid wheelset, preferably box rims as a starter. It's going to be the day to day rider, any recommendations? Any options besides the ever reliable Open Pros/Ultegra combo? And then what? Stems? Seatpost? I'm looking for durability. All on a budget.

I'm really enjoying this thread. So many nice builds!

These wheels: http://www.bicyclewheelwarehouse.com...-/prod_34.html
For about $350., you can drop almost 2 pounds.

Cockpit will depend upon you (size, fit, style, etc...).
I say get carbon. It really smooths out the ride a lot.

First upgrades should be tires and brake pads.
(Continental Grand Prix 4000S tires w/SwissStop brake pads)
If the saddle isn't comfortable, then that. Then, bars, stem, etc...

Tiagra is good. Keep it as long as possible until you outgrow it.
To keep it in the family? Go to 105 after that.

Here's my CAAD9:

Me too. I recently bought a used 2007 Caad9 Sram rival/force mix for $500 on craigslist and im excited to ride it. It's been freezing here in Chicago so I haven't been able to ride it yet. Once spring comes along, I will swap out the seatpost, stem, shifters and handlebar tape. Loving all the CAADs in this thread. I will post mine when it's ready.

Congrats on the new bike!

Are you buying this bike new or used? If it's new (or close to it), I'd keep the stock R500s for the time being. I've got a 2009 CAAD9 6, and the stock wheels worked fine. I replaced them at ~4,000 miles with Open Pro/Ultegras for the improved ride, not because there was a problem with the R500s. Both wheelsets weigh about the same, which is about a pound more than the wheels 2ndGen linked to.

I'd go for the tires and brake pads 2ndGen recommended, and also follow his recommendation on keeping the Tiagra. My first upgrade would be the seat. Getting all of these together would cost you about $250.

The type of riding you do should dictate which upgrades you get, and in which order. And remember, the advice we give you is worth exactly what you're paying for it. ;)

Don't hate :D

sleepy 01-23-11 04:02 AM

Thanks for the tips!

I've actually got some used stuff I've acquired over a year or two. I have some old Ultegra 10 speed STI's, a set of old 105 brake calipers [I'm wondering if it would have better stopping power than the stock Tektros]. I'm liking the wheels 2ndgen linked, but I've got a soft spot for box rims. They look classic, they seem easier to true, and the spokes are easier to replace should they break. The weight's a bummer, but I'm used to 20 pound bikes, so it's not a shocker for me.
I really dig the magnesium white CAADs with the black lettering.
