Check out the "For Trade" Thread here in Road Bikes. I have a Caad8 which is being moved out of my rotation.

my 10 frameset is coming in this week. any reccomendations on what stem/bar combo to run. frame is black/white with a hint of blue.
I can't tell you you'll like it, but I can tell you it transformed my CAAD9's ride. It feels great, it is a super comfortable combo without making me feel alienated from the road. http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1297291011 http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/...g?t=1297290914 |

Took my caad9 out for the first time today. Being able to really put power down with virtually no frame flex is simply amazing. I feel like i went from a 1980 toyota pick-up to a lamborghini.
The Caad9 has brought me into a whole new world of possiblitys! Love it. I felt like that is what road cycling is meant to be. I grew as a rider and was able to put on more miles at a faster pace. Not only that, it's handling was way better than my previous bike (as mentioned before, a Trek 1.5). |

weird to see that out of DC

NCVC's website: http://www.ncvc.net/default.aspx Of course, there's also DC Velo: http://www.dcvelo.com/ I don't know what each group is like, so they seem kinda like a People's Front of Judea/Judean People's Front sort of thing. ;) http://www.realityloop.net/blog/Thes...94/Front_3.jpg |

If color matters - go 3T and get the black and white set up.
That said, I prefer Ritchey WCS bars and stems. I like the reach, drop and curve of the bars and they tend to be fairly light and stiff for the price.

I remember the first time I got in a long ride on my CAAD9.
I felt like that is what road cycling is meant to be. I grew as a rider and was able to put on more miles at a faster pace. Not only that, it's handling was way better than my previous bike (as mentioned before, a Trek 1.5). I got on and was messing around trying out all my gears because i had just had the LBS adjust the deraillieurs. After i had ridden say 1/4 on the path. I glance over my shoulder, and to my surprise another cyclist is about to pass me, kind of a good thing i checked, as i was drifting into the "passing" lane. So he passed me and of course. The first thing i thought was: I gotta keep pace with this guy and see what kind of shape i'm in. I've been off any kind of ride bike for around 4 months. still been riding my DH MTB at the local butte. which is a 40lb beast of a bike. So i just held pace with him for a ways. then we come to an intersection that crosses a road. He makes the gap between the traffic and i miss it. so i slow down and wait for traffic to allow me to go. I cross and begin accelerating to catch back up to the fellow cyclist. Which wasn't to hard, but he wasn't really trying to push it at that point, as he was getting a drink off his water bottle. He then glanced bank and noticed i wasn't rushing past him. so I'd assume he was figuring i was just some guy one his new road bike, feeling like Lance Armstrong, Lol. He slowly began increasing his pace, probably thinking he was going to drop me without any issue. The only reason i say this, is because he would glance back and noticeably increase his pace. I think we probably got up to about 20-22mph and held steady at that for say 2-2 1/2 miles. Then i suddenly notice his speed diminish to say 18-20mph?. so i slowly begin passing him. Do the usual check to see what kind of bike he was riding, Fuji. I say the Usual hey, hows it goin. He says good and the same in return was asked to me. I say good, and accelerate past him and hang off to the left of the path to see if he wants to. I don't know race a little? i'm not sure what my speed was after i passed him but i would guess 25mph for the last mile of pathway before it reaches another road crossing. When i got here i decided i was turning around and going home before i threw up my dinner i had just eatin 15 mins prior to this whole ordeal. so he rolls up along side me and says. nice pace. I say thanks, its been awhile. At the same time i'm turning around to go back home. So i yell out "have a good one" and again get the same in return. Fun little experience and it was not negative in anyway. i appreciated having someone to Coax me into pushing it a little when i had expected to just do a short leasure ride to try out the new bike. Seemed like he enjoyed having a little challenge as well. So it was a good time had by all. Cool story Bro's?:D |
Cool story bro.

I call that a "wolf pack mentality".
When I see someone ahead of me, I pick up my pace to keep up with them, but will hang back a good 50 feet so that they don't feel like I'm right on their arse. If they keep a good pace, I don't try to pass them. I use them to motivate me. I just want to run with the pack. The dumbest thing I did was to crank it up to catch up with these two hardcore riders that blew by me as I was about to come to a rest stop. I opened up and gave everything I had to keep a steady 20+mph pace with these guys and I managed to keep up with them for a couple of miles until they hung a left at a light. They turned to see that the guy they passed on a bike that probably cost me 1/10th of what their rigs cost them was right up there with them, gave me a smile and a nod. I nodded and smiled and after another mile, reached my destination where I collapsed! That shi! is so cool. When my riding bud and I get a chance to ride, he definitely takes me to the next level. When I think about slowing down, the thought immediately comes to mind "what will he think of me if I slack?" He races. When I ride with him, I get a hard workout, but I never fall behind and I do things I normally wouldn't. The biggest compliment he gave me was a big "thanks" for riding with him, that it pushes him too. Which reminds me...I'm online too much. I need to be riding. Is winter over yet? Grrrr! |

I finally in the financial position to make my CAAD purchase and now i have the burning question, (no I have not gotten to test ride either) is going with SRAM worth the extra couple hundred dollars? Or should i put that money not spent toward a wheel set or something of the sort

I do the exact same thing....every once in a while I'll decide to make a pass if there pace is in the 17-18 range, and then I feel I must keep in front at all costs. I ride allot of hills in Va. and this past december was on A1A in Ft. Lauderdale heading north pacing two riders at about 19mph and holding back about 100 feet. This went on for about 5 miles. I decided I would cruise on past them and ramped it up to about 22-23. I never looked back and never slowed down, figuring I'd left them behind. After another 5 miles I took a casual look behind me and there they were. Not dropped, and looking fresh as a daisy. Sped up a little more, figuring my hill riding in Va. would help me at least stay ahead of these flatland riders. About a minute later they passed me giving me that upward nod of the head and little smile....Everything I had, and dropped like a bad penny...Was still fun, and a way better workout than I would have had..:thumb:

That is, if they stayed close enough. ;) Not really a bad thing as long as everyone knows what they're doing. Cyclists riding together will often take turns at the front. |

Does anyone have an approximate weight of what the stock wheels on a Caad 9-7 weigh? They are the Cannondale branded hubs and CXP-22 rims.
Thanks! |
