For the wheelset, I was thinking the Williams System 30 and the crankset the FSA SL-K Light. Any thoughts? I would imagine those two would be much better upgrades than the handlebar or stem.

Best bang for buck upgrade for a CAAD9 IMO is what I did...an Ultegra SL crankset.

Roughly $125.-150.
About 830g w/BB.

Shifts beautifully, compatible with the best drivetrain bits should you choose to upgrade them later.
And, it's gorgeous. I think it is the sleeper crankset. It was an incredible upgrade over my FSA Vero crank.
It's something you will notice every time you ride until you get used to it's buttery smoothness.

My Ultegra SL "before" I swapped chainrings...

Here's mine with Dura-Ace 7800 Chainrings...

Edit:
Just noticed...2010 CAAD9. BB30, right?
Well, that limits your options to BB30 cranks or BB30 w/adapters.
Lucky you...you can mount a Cannondale Hollowgram crank on there!
I'm just a little bit jealous! :D

bonz50 05-20-11 11:09 AM

how many of you guys have both a caad10 and a supersix?? if you can float it, is the SS worth the ching??

callmeAL 05-20-11 11:57 AM

yeah it is BB30. The Hollowgram is a little too expensive. I have read wheels are the way to go but you think the better option is a crank. CC has a deal on a 2011 SRAM RED crankset for $399. Is it ok mixing 105's with SRAM?

The DA chainrinngs look tight! Much cleaner and smoother.

Fist off, my CAAD10 is amazing. handling is superb. With that said, I favor my Supersix when doing anything other than a crit.

exactly what he said.

I want the SuperSix EVO! Yum!
13.89lbs for the RED,
10.89lbs for the EVO Ultimate.

Runner 1 05-20-11 12:35 PM

It's weird that the Dura-Ace chainrings have a simpler looking design than the Ultegra. You'd think the design would get more complex as you go up...

Ughhh I know! After 4 consecutive workouts on the trainer, I was able to make it out to the park this morning (before the rain started), and it was like heaven. I later got stuck in the rain while walking to work. Yay.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for your chances to take your new wheels for a spin this weekend!

Thanks for the invite, but I am supposed to go out on 9W with my team tomorrow, after the races (will not be in those, but am attempting my first crit on Sunday...hoping it merely ends in hilarity, not tragedy). I'm in the city, and still (impatiently) kickin' around on my Spec Dolce, so perhaps we can make it happen some other time!

Excellent. Welcome to the family. :)

First major upgrade. Velocity Deep V wheels/White Industries MI-5 Racer hubs...

shrinkboy 05-21-11 03:35 PM

isn't that a very heavy wheelset, bassjones? what makes it an 'upgrade'? what was there before?

To weight wheenies it's a heavy wheelset. I'm a clydesdale so I needed something strong and beefy. These are actually lighter than the stock RS10s though. Lighter and a lot stronger. I'm also using 36 spokes front and rear. If I get my weight into non-clyde territory over the next couple of years I'll probably build up a cyclocross bike with these wheels and buy something more weight wheenie friendly for the CAAD9.

Sorry i flaked on this yesterday! I got a ton of stuff dumped on me at work, so just put my head down to try to get out of there at a reasonable hour, since I had to be up at 4am to marshal at today's race! Then went out on 9W, came home, and worked till now...gah.

Anyway, to answer your question, I just joined up with NYVelocity at the beginning of the month. I didn't think I was anywhere near fast enough to race, but I emailed the team to ask how fast I would need to get before joining, and they had me come out for a few rides. NYV in particular is pretty focused on rider development, so they're happy to take someone who's not super-fast but is willing to work, and provide that person with a training plan.

Hope your ride was pleasant today! It was gorgeous weather for it!!!

Wow. Some of you are really pimping out your CAADs. For better or worse, evidently.
