Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Good race up Baldy. American cyclists performed well.

RU, you really need to stop finding sentimental value in the old house. Sorry to hear about the loss.

Good job VG. Hopefully you got the finishers medal you desire.

yes they did. It was no Zoncolan, but it was good. Great teamwork once again, by the Shack crew.

Starting to look like I am going to have to stay away from this thread until after I watch today's stage later.

I'll say. Horner is riding like a beast. He says the only guy in the world who can out-climb him @ present is Contador. But Alberto may not be in this year's TdF if he loses his court case. If that happens, could C. Horner challenge A. Schleck in July? Schleck got shelled like a cheap pistachio by Levi and Chris in the last couple of kms on that climb today. Stay tuned. Could get interesting.

Schleck, might be in better form with a good team around him. Don't forget Frank, and Fabian are some of the best in the world. Had then been in Cali this week, it may of been a different story. Either way, you can't take away from a great showing of the Shack boys this week. July is gonna be interesting.

also, could it be that AS is using the TOC as a training ride? Whereas Horner is racing to win. You can only really peak for one big GT unless you have the advantage of Spanish beef.

Fifty-four miles this evening in my futile effort to keep pace with LowCel.

I ventured into parts unknown in Anderson County . . . literally. At one point I started to question my non-photographic map memory, but I happened upon a wild turkey at an unmarked intersection that bid me in the right direction.

You ever "discover" a road for riding and wonder how it could have taken you so long to try it? Wolf Valley is great, though I was somewhat disappointed to see no wolves.

You are probably pretty far ahead of me for this month. The weather has been terrible. I only have 449 miles so far for May and 2,694 for 2011.

LOL. Did you see the guy with the fishing pole and the piece of beef he waved in front of Contador during the Giro today?

"Pretty far ahead" = a whopping five miles. And I don't expect to finish the month strong.

Oh well.

I actually use a very basic spreadsheet that I have been using since 2001. I can also look at Training Peaks WKO+ or Garmin Direct for my totals.

Yeah. I'm trying. Being a big baby is just no fun.
