Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I did a clip-in-fail fall today on my group ride. But since I was the last to roll off and everyone else was 50 or so yards down the road, they never knew I hit the pavement. Nor will they ever.

I already posted this in the "stupidest thing you've ever done to your bike" thread, but I think its worthy of both.
I took my bike to the bike shop yesterday because it was not shifting properly, only to learn that I had clamped the cable on my handlebar with my newly installed light.

Bikes: Have two wheels

I put my road bike away for the winter and only use it on the trainer until the weather warms up again.

About 12 years ago I went riding at altitude and got myself in over my head about 20 miles out. I let the air out of my rear tire and hitchhiked back home saying I had a flat!

That thin air can kill you, it did my father in law, although he was at the summit of Mt Aconcagua.

Ok, new confessions from today's ride:

1. I sometimes watch my silhouette on the road, ostensibly to make sure my head and shoulders aren't bobbing but really I'm checking to see if I look fat
2. I dislike my new bibs tights, even though the fit like comfortable pj's and keep me warm because they don't show any of the little muscle definition I've worked my butt off this summer to build
3. I stopped in the middle of a beautiful ride to type out these freaking confessions (ok, just kidding on this one)

I love this thread!

I recently replaced my crankset with a compact version because I was getting upset when I'd look down and always see that I was riding in lower gears... Of course now I realize how much better it is for me overall but at the time it was replaced for purely superficial reasons.

ahhh confession is so good for the soul!

Since I am a single empty-nester, I fart more at home.

Hey, don't judge. I eat a lot of broccoli and cauliflower.

The farts fly freely at my house. My 2-year old does it and thinks it's hilarious, and I usually bust out laughing, too.

Conversations at home are more about bikes and bike rides and my partner says what about job hunting.

You never talk about that, but what would you rather talk about, a great ride out or the latest job ads?

Also was so engrossed in Facebook that I got on the wrong tram coming back from the Model Shop in town buying him a model Bell Airacobra and only realised when the announcer said, this is the Eccles service...

Should have been on the Altrincham one and got off at Sale lol, tho may have ended up in Altrincham anyway lol.

Might have been in trouble if a Ticket Inspector had asked for my ticket and I only had a return to Sale and not for Eccles.

They are a strict lot and would only have needed a jobsworth for me to land a £100 fine.

But I realised quick and changed trams to get to where I was supposed to be going

Once in a while, a colleague of mine will be in town and call me to have dinner or drink, but if I have a ride scheduled, I'd rather ride.
This happened yesterday but I wasn't planning on riding, so I took in the calories

If I wanted to confess I'd still be a catholic. The rest of you have to kneel on your bike and say 3 rosaries for penance.

- I am 15 pounds over weight. Now I eat healthy and ride more in hopes for that number to get smaller.
- I always hated Road Cycling growing up. I rode BMX and Road Cycling was super taboo.
- I ride on my commuting bike. That will change for Spring.
- I think most Road cyclists are jerks. But it's probably because they have nicer bikes, ride faster and are more fit then me.
- I ride like a crazy person in Manhattan.
