Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I wear my sunglasses over my helmet straps.
I am very self conscious about it.

Why wouldn't you do that? I don't want the straps squeezing the sides of the glasses frames.

I find special joy in passing long lines of backed up traffic.

I use tire liners on all of my bikes. Going without is like riding without a helmet.

I'm the same way! I go back into a store 30 seconds later to ask a question- "Which clerk waited on you?" -The guy might as well've asked me what the square root of 987,626 is! To myself:"Well it wasn't the girl; It wasn't the black guy....".

In 10th grade I made friends with this nice black kid. Next day in front of the school I think I see him, but he doesn't say anything to me, so I figure it's not him. Then another "him"...walk up to him....no response...guess it's not him. This happens about 5 more times.... Turns out, the kid wasn't even in school that day!

Then there are people who are the complete opposite: Guy I hung out with when we were 11, and whom I hadn't seen since then because we both moved far away....recognizes me in a store one day...when we're 30!

When I was a teenage racer back in the 80s, I brought a picture of Andy Hampsten to the barber and said I wanted my hair cut like his. It wasn't even a flattering picture, and my hair is straight and black, nothing like Andy's.

I hate fixie's that the kids at my school ride I don't mind track bikes but those ***** swag bikes that kids are riding.
People always call my Roubaix a fixe...I have stoped correcting them.
There's a kid at my school that rides a cheap Walmart bike but I hate him cuz he doesn't actually ride it he always walks it because he doesn't understand shifting

I can't feel the difference between good alloy and a steel frame.
Seriously I just bought a 90's steel frame and I've already ridden it quite a bit. It even has those annoying really thin old road bars made out of steel which should be really good dampeners.
Also the steel bike has wider tires so even with that it should be more comfortable.

I notice absolutely no difference to my crux. Except that the crux might be more comfortable. At least on cobbles. I hate cobbles. I cannot understand the guys riding paris-roubaix.

Also, old caliper brakes suuuuuck! So bad braking it makes little kittens cry!

And the worst confession of all

I love cantilever brakes. SO much power and modulation

Don't hate on BD man! The dork disc is easy to take off legitamately or just cut it off without taking anything off

1. I don't own any bike clothing
2. I am scared sh**less of buying a pair of pedals and shoes
3. There must be a reason for that plastic wheel "dork disk" in the back, therefore it stays. I don't want the chain to launch into my spokes or something
4. I spend about 60% or more of my working night checking these forums out
5. I ride a trail near my house, and a lot of enthusiast elitist types ride by me and are always cool to me, despite my tshirt, plaid shorts, and cheap helmet.
6. I could care less about the "rules" I do this for me, not for what someone else should think of me
7. I like these forums, but I personally hate "bike" culture
8. I used to flip off and honk at bicyclists ALL THE TIME, not because I'm an ass but I always was scared sh**less that I would accidentally hit one someday. This has since changed.
9. I hate how CO has a large populace of bikers, but not a road structure that supports them, why have a road with no shoulder and give cars and bikes the same right of way? Than make it illegal to use the sidewalk? Our politicians are mentally deficient at best. At least leave a two foot bike lane where any said biking activities don't scare the poop out of the drivers.
10. I hate the appearance of "extras" on my bike, so I haven't quite committed to a water bottle holder, or saddle bag

My wife is more jealous when I look longingly at a bike than I do girls...
I am perpetually lost, even when I know where I am.

When in a foreign country I change my accent when talking to fellow cyclist, hoping that they will tell me how perpetually lost I really am.

I was out of the saddle for almost three weeks with bronchitis. Yesterday when I went riding I didn't unclip quick enough at a stop sign and fell over.

Sssh, I don't even have a road bike right now.
I currently own 2 folding bikes, a single speed utility bike, and a BMX.
I also have free access to several MTBs.
Since MTBs came along, I haven't ridden a proper road bike in 25 years (rode a Fuji Espree as a kid, it's still in my parent garage).
Now I am trolling to decide which road bike and gear I will get after the new year (looking like a Trek Domane or titanium with discs so far).

This is the Confession thread, not the "What do we all love most about cycling?" thread.

When I see people riding fixies around San Francisco I always make jokes about stoopid hipsters but I'm secretly insanely jealous of them.

Bikes: Lectric Xpedition.

I rode after work on Monday. I forget my bike socks, so I wore my "work socks", which were knee high Juzo 20-30 mmHg flesh tone compression socks. No one on the group ride would talk to me. I felt like I had leprosy.
