Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: are fun! :-)

Kudos to SRAM!

The lever on my Rival RD shifter broke last week during a ride. Not the lever itself but up in the shifting mechanism. Bottom line is that the lever came completely off and I was glad I had only made it a couple of blocks from the office when it happened. I took it in to the LBS and they contacted SRAM. SRAM warrantied everything, and immediately shipped a new shifter instead of waiting to receive and inspect the broken part first.

One week later, and I have my bike back and ready for tomorrow's century.

I really liked my Rival group before, and now I love the company that stands behind it. Thanks to SRAM warranty group and Bingham Cycles in Sandy, Utah for a job well done!!!

I just got a SRAM red blk edition crank on thurs and when the lbs went to install it, it seemed as if the carbon on the crankset arm was to thick and when it was torqued down it rubbed on the BB. Called SRAM sent some pics new crank has been shipped.

I like the SRAM stuff on my MTB as well as my son's but have been a Campy guy for my road bikes. Recently I have been looking for a new bike for my wife and was looking specifically at the Specialized Ruby Elite Apex. One of my friends at the shop warned me that they have had a large volume of SRAM failures and while they warranty everything they are becoming a bit leery of the SRAM road stuff. I spoke with the owner this evening as we were sizing my wife on the Ruby and he confirmed what my buddy had said. I may have to strip the bike down and build it back up with Campy....

This has happened alot with Rival. I'm just waiting for my right shifter to break in the same way.

A few weeks ago I was at the end of a ride and noticed a guy with 2 slightly different brifters. I asked him and yes, he was a victim of the "little metal part" which broke and the shifter came off the bike.

I hope when it happens I'm not 50 hilly miles out.

I find it confusing when others are happy with a product that breaks.

I'm a recent SRAM convert - but I agree with these two sentiments. I've come across a few folks whose shifters broke in a few thousand miles. That's pretty poor IMO, hope mine last longer.

Good to know. I just purchased a Rival kited TT bike tonight. I shouldn't have a problem with the shifters because the TT bikes use bar-end shifters. Nice to know that everything will be covered if something does break.

Not happy it broke. Happy with the way the manufacturer responded. I guess being an engineer helps me understand that sometimes stuff breaks.

I've been on SRAM road stuff since it first became available. I went in for my first warrantied part today.

The barrel adjuster in my break caliper seized up. Pretty minor issue, and I've been told to expect a very quick resolution.

Other than that, I've had no issues with the stuff whatsoever. I'm very happy with it. It's very nice to know that company has such a great reputation for standing behind their products.

It's definitely a good look when people are used to a poorer standard of treatment; that'll build brand loyalty better than flawless components, I wager.
