Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Another epic ride today. Weight is going down.

Dinner: beef short ribs braised in white wine and spices, brown rice made with beef stock and almonds and salad.

We are walking over the the Hagen Dazs shop for a waffle cone stuffed with mint chip

I think may be down 10 lbs. after riding 1100+ miles in the last 30 days and eating dinners of salad, chicken and veggies. Who can say? I won't stop until my mother is alarmed, then I'll know I'm only 5 lbs or so away from a good cycling weight.

Discuss.
My mother was alarmed the last time she saw me. I weigh about the same now as I did then.

My daughter complains that I'm not soft and comfy to lie on.

I must still be about 10 pounds too heavy.

My stupid doctor weighs me every time I go there. And with this leg blood clot I'm going there every few weeks. Last time I said 'WTF, what is this the doctor or 'America's Biggest Loser'. They were not amused.

Just got to the point where I have two jerseys that are too big to comfortably wear. All future purchases will be a size down. This is new territory. My two latest bib acquisitions were mediums. MEDIUMS. I haven't worn medium anything since Physical Graffiti.

Next time you weigh in at the doc, be sure to give a big, moving speech after the final number ticks off explaining how you are happy with that number and are looking very forward to makeover week.

My fat jeans are getting awful loose. Could be time for the skinny jeans soon. But not yet.

Not yet.

My latest foray into weight loss (an unintentional one) is: orthodontics. I had braces for five years from 2nd through 7th grades. It was brutal, back when they used leeches. Over the years my teeth have been crowded to the point where flossing is next to impossible and there is a dental need, not just a cosmetic one.

Day 1 is today with the Full Metal Mouth, and having to re-learn how to eat. Oh yes, there will be weight loss, but not from trying. Consuming pureed foods will be come the norm, and no more chocolate, pizza or corn on the cob.

Now that Magic Bullet blender system will be put to the test.

Five pounds in three days. Calorie intake is down, but not much, and miles are up. Magic Bullet will be in charge of tonight's meal. Eggs, veggies, milk, turkey sausage, a pinch of flour, blended up to whippy perfection and cooked up to fluffy yumminess in a large cookie cutter placed in the pan. Place that on a waffle with a dab of maple syrup and voila. Poor man's quiche.

Moved six tons of rock today during Operation Xeriscape. Down 10 lbs this week. Braces feeling better, but regular foods are a chore to eat. Lots of shakes, eggs, noodles and miles. Many miles planned this week if the yellow bracelet shows up for the TdYB.

Not in my case.

Still, off it comes. 193 this AM. I think I lost 10 lbs in the last 5 weeks. Hope to be another 10lbs lighter in a month and sub 180 by March 1. Very motivated, being fat really does suck.

I never worry that much about weight, I have been off the bike for almost two months and been to holiday parties. In the new year I will have time to ride again and will lose the excess weight.

I am watching a documentary on veganism called Vegucated. I don't care so much bout the vegan movement outside of diet, but I'll admit that I am intrigued. Being raised a meat and potatoes boy with lots of dairy mixed in, breaking 190 going down has always proved difficult.

The film maker took three non-vegans and exposed them for six weeks to the diet. The film is on Netflix and is worth a look even if only for the weight loss aspect.
