I'll give it a hot despite being over budget because it's a resourceful build and I'm partial to tall people bikes :thumb:

This thread is fail, the bikes are too expensive. No under 1000 no care.

Uh, no. I could show you a pic of my other wheelset that I have a whole lot less money in if it would make you feel better about your ability to do math.

Alrighty...
I'm resubmitting my bike to the thread because it's seen a couple changes and after today's ride I consider it "done". Frame: 2001 Klein Quantum, Silver Cloud, 58cm Fork: Klein Air Rail OD Wheelset: 2006 Mavic Ksyrium Elite Tires: Continental Grand Prix 24, 24mm wide (23mm mounted) Shifters: Shimano ST-5700 RD: Shimano RD-5700 FD: Shimano FD-5700, braze-on Crankset: Shimano FC-5750, 175mm, 50/34 Chain: Shimano CN-5701 Calipers: Shimano BR-5700 Pedals: Shimano PD-5700 Handlebar: Ritchey Pro EvoCurve, 40cm Stem: Ritchey Pro 4-Axis, 100mm Seatpost: Ritchey Pro Carbon, two bolt, custom cut length Saddle: Selle Italia Turbomatic Tape: Fizik Microtex, silver Cages: Elite Pase Silver Composite Macia Housings/Cables: Jagwire Computer: Garmin Edge 305 The bike was purchased on local CL with the original 5500 triple group, wheelset, and other parts on it. Everything except the frameset was changed, the original group, saddle, and wheelset have been sold to offset the cost of the bike. Total into the bike, give or take a few bucks, $1319. I'm not counting the Garmin as it moves from bike to bike. If you want to, $80 eBay buy with cadence sensor and heart rate strap. I have a few more bits to sell too...maybe $25-$50 worth to further offset the cost. http://home.comcast.net/~khatfull/im.../kleincost.jpg I love the ride. The whole bike just works for me...the fit is great (I got lucky with the stem choice), the 105 group is just amazing for the money, wheels spin like butter. I think the group and the frame compliment each other perfectly in a visual sense. I welcome your comments! http://home.comcast.net/~khatfull/im...kleindone1.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~khatfull/im...kleindone2.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~khatfull/im...kleindone3.jpg |
Very nice regardless of budget.

No, they have it right. 1700+900=2600. 600 over the max budget. Whether you already owned them or not, you still paid for them. Post pic with regular wheels. Throwing 1k dollar wheels on things is exactly why this thread was created. Unless of course, the rest of the bike was less than a thousand. Which yous admittedly did not.
Front wheel was given in trade for building up two MTB wheelsets for a friend (he provided all the parts). It is a 5 or 6 year old 404 that probably has over 15k miles on it. No cost there but my time. Paid $50 for the broken (at the time) powertap hub with around 8k miles on it and no record of a bearing change. I resoldered a joint on the battery cage and it came back to life. So I went ahead and installed new bearings which cost another $60. The 808 first generation hoop was free from a friend's tri group rider as the brake track markers are almost totally gone and he was getting a new set of Firecrests hoops laced up. Rebuilt the rear with the 808 on it with some cheap spokes and brass nipples for the final 50. Build cost as pictured - $1860. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...n/DSCN1282.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...n/DSCN1283.jpg |

Nice bike Robots. What wheels are those? |
looks great to me.

Thanks!
They are the Yishun 50mm clinchers. I picked them up before the whole China wheels thing blew up. Since sold to a friend. |
Sorry to plaster photos of my bike everywhere, but it fits this thread:
Miracle Trade matte MC053, including fork, post, headset, extra headset, hanger - $500 WH6700 wheels: $400 Scrounged Ultegra 6600 off of my old bike, lets be generous and say $500 Miracle Trade HB003 bars and ST002 stem, both full carbon, $90 total for both Free SLR saddle I got from a friend (rule number one in cycling: ride with people who like to get rid of stuff frequently): $0 Conti GP4000S tires: $110 Forte tape: $18 Ultegra 6700 pedals, one season old, let's say $100 Cables (Jagwire Racer kit): $55 That's $1,773 If I included all of the shipping costs, I'd probably be right below $2K. Result: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-P...0/IMAG0376.jpg Weighs about 16.5 pounds. Ignore the steerer, I just built it up today and I'm still working on position. |
the polished silver on matte black looks good.

Here's my budget (and only) build. I had to buy and sell lots of stuff to get it the way it is now, but it's definitely worth under the $2k mark. Bought the Hermes Sport wheels just recently, which cost $400. I bought everything else used from craigslist, forums or the SD velodrome swap meet; it helped me find the entire SRAM Rival groupset for $400 in brand new condition. |
Thats a great looking bike! One of the best looking Fuji's I seen.
Having a "proper" saddle to bar drop does wonders for presentation. Slamming the stem helps too. :) |
