Riding After Vasectomy??

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I was comfortable on the bike about a week later. Keep ice on it. Frozen corn was my favorite. Best advice I can give though is to follow docs orders and don't push it.

Topper. I thought I was doing well racing in 10 days. Given my experience, riding a bike home from the procedure would have been a bad idea.

There's got to be a joke in here somewhere.

I know this is for sure different than getting back on a bike, but when I got snipped 20 years ago on a Saturday morning, I played in a softball game that afternoon, with no discomfort. Maybe I was still a bit frozen? Sitting on a saddle HAS to be more stressful that running around bound up as tight as a drum.

Not intentionally, but reading it again makes me wonder...

My friend had a vasectomy a little over a decade ago. He is now on a hormone replacement program. Mainly pills, but when his testosterone goes too low he has to get a shot every week for a month. He regrets his decision, as low testosterone caused other health issues because it is apparently a necessary hormone in your body.

I waited 8 days before doing a pretty quick 47 mile ride. I'm not sure if it was the new operation or the brand new Brooks that gave me a little pain and numbness on that ride. Its been 3 weeks now, and I have pretty much forgotten that I had the procedure done.

Really the only bad pain I had was the afternoon after the procedure, and I partially blame that on the gf for deciding that me, her, and her friend who was in town should go directly from the doctors office and go out to eat. All the bumps on the car ride home were murder on los huevos.

I am horizontal on the couch after getting back from the office. Very quick, but it was pretty uncomfortable during the two shots of lido I am a dentist, so I was hoping for discomfort more in line with getting a shot, but I would rather have a root canal than vasectomy. That being said it still wasn't too bad. Doc told me I could run in 5 days, but I was to be off the bike for three weeks. I will probably try to go in two weeks.

Well, if the OP meant *that* kind of ride...I gave it 36 hours and was back in the "saddle". I guess I was eager to make sure it still worked.

1. Glad mine did not show it to me! Of course, I kept my arm over my closed eyes the whole time and was babbling about everything in the world to keep my mind off of it, so my doc probably knew I didnt want to see anything

2. You have to wait bc sperm can live in the remaining tube sections for quiet a while

3. MIL is a cougar and knows you are safe now?

4. Electric shaver = bad idea...also just wait until it all starts growing back!

Glad to hear you are ok so far. Two weeks from now, you wont even hardly think about the procedure!

Wait at least a week, and go easy the first time. If you aren't having a no scalpel vasectomy you need a different doctor. There is a thing I like to call"the art of getting away with it"- just because you played softball or rode your bike the next day and nothing bad happened doesn't mean it was the right thing to do.
The rate of the" post vasectomy pain syndrome " basically delayed testicular pain, is about 10% but temporary in most of these.
If your friend is taking pills that might be "bio-identical hormone replacement therapy" which is basically taking precursors of testosterone. True testosterone does not come in an oral form. And having a vasectomy has no effect on your T levels. And if I had a dollar for every pt I have seen started on hormone therapy when their T levels were either normal or worse yet not measured, I could retire.

Update: I did fine with the procedure. He did have to reinject and that wasn't fun. I felt like yelling freedom ala Bravehart, but I held off. I felt no issues the following two days, but I did too much the 4th day out errands and around the house stuff. I paid for it big time the next three days. I did get back on the bike just over two weeks out and did fine. I have ridden every day since then and have had no problems. Good luck to any other guys out there that go this route.

Yep, I started doing some things that first week, stayed off the bike but did some light exercise. 1.5 weeks I rode on the trainer. It was tender getting into the bibs but one mounted I was good to go. I go the blood flowing and i think it helped because each day was rapidly better after that and 3 more days I went on my first real ride.
Now I'm pretty good on the third week but still notice the railroad tracks and any rough road I ride over. Overall, not so bad. Ready to have it out of my mind completely.
