Merlin C110 Works... CF, the last one they made, I think. Prefab tubes with CF lugs and a touch of Ti in the rear dropouts. Nice paint job. I admit it, the paint is what attracted me to it. But its pedigree was fine at the time. The frame, fork and HS were going cheap on chainrreactioncycles.

Machka and Rowan have done the Last Chance 1200K put on by our club, if I'm not mistaken. Desolate, nasty, mind-effin' thing it is. Climb a roller, see corn, climb a roller, see corn, rinse and repeat 700 times more. That's just on the way out. With a tailwind. Turn around, face the wind, see what you can do to survive the trip back.

1200k on a bike is beyond stupid.

Yeah, but it gets worse... we're thinking of going back and doing it again!

It's quite a tough ride for the very reason LAJ says... the wash-and-rinse cycle can get quite monotonous. There are little highlights though... we slept in the doorway of a church, saw a beautiful sunrise, slept in the spookiest motel in the spookiest town (Attwood), watched a huge hammerhead cloud over Boulder on the way back and still were able to miss the lightning and rain, and slept on a side road (and I mean, slept on it)...

We're crazy, we have the certification. :D
