If I didn't already run this morning I would take a bottle cage off of my bike, making it 12lbs, and ride it 12miles just to make it extra special. I need to go to work now however.

If you want that, take a look at the CC Civilian steel bikes. They can go back and forth between single and geared. I think you were out when we had the SS discussion, when RUOkie (IIRC?) was getting his breed, and I was crabbing about my Brougham. I got the Brougham for commuting, and hated it do to cheap wheels and flat terrain on my commute. I ended up liking it far more on long hilly rides than I did on short flat commutes, and have since put on a much nicer hand built rear wheel.

Single speeds definitely fall into the "Your mileage may vary" category.

correct. The CC Civilian was the other bike on my list

I was going to ride the 12miles to work this morning but it was 12deg. (no kidding). I drove. I'll run after work or ride the trainer.

25ºF. 45 miles. 4400 vertical feet. I liked it.

Thinner.

rjones28 12-12-12 10:07 AM

I'll probably run 5k after lunch.

coasting 12-12-12 10:09 AM

I'll run 3 steps to the toilet and back.

That's my 3¢ (inflation)

Or you could buy it and plunder any parts that you consider an upgrade for your Cinelli and then sell it.

That is where I am. I am really thinking Cross-Check for credit card touring with fenders and a small back rack, even contemplating a triple crank set up. The good deal doesn't really further that goal.

And I thought of getting the parts for the Cinelli, but my wheels are already nicer (hand builts, record hubs and A23 rims), and Athena, though more expensive, does not seem like an upgrade over Centaur. I know it is more expensive, but I think bottom of the tier 11 vs. top of tier 10 speed.

Thanks for the feed back guys.

Do that 5x and it's yet another grueling coasting interval session.

Felt much better on the bike today. Amazing what dropping a couple of pounds does for your cycling. Or how hard it gets when you add a few.

Just wrapped up the 2013 budget. Resolution for the year is to pay cash for everything aside from monthly bills, which are run through the credit cards for points. Thanks to the employer raising rates of healthcare premiums to COBRA-like levels while reducing benefits, I bailed on open enrollment and went on the market. Saving boatloads of money with the HSA, freeing up money for college for the kids and cash-only bike stuffs.

By the way, does everyone else have coasting's number? Because I don't.

Sorry I'm not up on all the lingo - what do you mean Coasting's sock? I sent the link thinking it might help with the pain. Why is it a red flag???

People don't? I've been buried in debt before and learned from it. Part of this nation's problems are discipline in the world of personal finance. Government can't do it all...

Not to infer that is what you do, coaster...

My knees are fine for the time being, I've had my share of knee problems though. Current issue is with my ankle.

Pay no attention to Velo Vol.

we have a lot of inside jokes here. this thread has been going for 3+ years. coasting has long been suspected of either being a sock puppet of VeloVol's (except for the fact that pcad actually met him--he could be in on the ruse) and we have had multiple suspect new members here who we suspect of being his sock puppet.

coasting is a big proponent of beet juice. and ginger. and other tomfoolery

notice the lack of use of the shift key

gsteinb 12-12-12 12:22 PM

I am a pcad sock puppet.
