Oh yeah, the big mysterious medical reason my skin hurts in that area of my foot is a condition known as stasis dermatitis. Goes along with veinous stasis wounds/poor local circulation. I kept asking my wound treatment guy about this but never could get a straight answer. Hell, I couldn't even get answer. Maybe because if you then asked him how to treat this condition, the medical community's response would be a doink doink look of WTF puzzlement. So why tell the patient anything? I found this in 10 minutes of digging on the web by the way. I'll be battling with this on a chronic basis I'm afraid, but the circulation in that leg continues to improve, and at least I know how to treat it if it worsens into an actual open sore. |

I know, I know, I already edited my original post! Billy isn't too far off though, I did go to school here in Fl. |

Well you are doing all the right things, exercise, loss of weight but remember, this all stems from an inability of blood returning from the leg to the heart. This build up of pressure leads to the changes noted. Only application of counteracting pressure truly helps in solving the problem, or at least in relieving the symptoms. Jobst or sig varis stockings are what I order-40 mmhg pressure at least knee high. Although proper wound dressing choice is important, the most important treatment remains pressure application.
And yes, that's what the medical websites essentially said, that it's compression stockings and treating an ulcerations properly should they recur. At least I know what I'm dealing with. What's amazing to me is I could have been told all of this in ten minutes by my specialist. I got most of what I know about this from him, but then had to figure out the rest on my own. I shouldn't have to figure out any of it on my own, that's what he's supposed to do. I really don't understand some of these doctors. When I see that wound treatment guy again I'll ask him why he didn't answer my question when Google did relatively easily. |
