BTW, went to see Hitchcock tonight. Very good flick.

Hmmm, it got panned in a couple of reviews I listened to.
I really wanna see the new one with Babs and Seth Rogan. Back to back movie nights, Jonesy? |
I rode every morning the week of Thanksgiving, with temps in the low to mid 20's. As I had a beard, I thought there was no need for facial coverings. I am finally recovering from the post nasal drip, sinus headache, and general malaise that ensued (never got a fever so I don't think it was flu). The worst part was that my nose split open and oozed. People thought I had crashed.
Now I know ice fishing to be much more healthy. :D |

I weighed a whopping 195 at the doctor tonight. That's the bad news. The good news is my cholesterol and BP were ideal (they are both medicated, but the meds are effective), and I've lost 5-8 lbs in the past month. The other good news is that I don't feel so bad about getting popped after an hour with the local Road Nazi scum in Florida in mid November. Holy crap, I must have been 200+ lbs on the bike that day. My typical cycling weight in the summer is more like 175, when I'm skinny I'm 170.
You can't sustain the same aerobic mojo, even on the flats, if you have added 15% to your body weight. Sooner or later you get gassed, sooner if there are any uphill grades. Anyway, good to know where I stand. I'm telling you man, I stop cycling for 3 months and I go straight to 200 lbs. Why do you think I ride so much? I'm a fat fat fatty waiting to happen. Battled with that 20-30 lbs my whole adult life, mostly I've kept it off. Feels better when I lose it. Off it shall come. I'll be very happy if I can get down to 180 by March 1. I'm pretty confident that if I get back down under 180 my blood pressure issues will resolve and I can bag the BP meds. It's really not all that high, kind of borderline, and it's really been just over the past year. |

speaking of the hobbit, did you notice the high frame rate? a coworker saw it over the weekend in 2d and said he didn't like it, because our brains are so used to compensating for 24 fps that it's distracting to have everything be so smooth.

Every so often the Humbolt squid come up and we make a run at night to find them. Its usually during the winter and there isnt much else biting - but its fishing. Savage creatures they are, big old beaks and barbs on their suckers. You get them anywhere from 800-1200 feet and its like pulling up bags of wet cement until the get to the surface. They will flash these cool colors and thats when their buddies who follow them up start to eat them. That night we were under the gun to catch as many as we can since my buddy's wife was Vietnamese and they were going to have an old school Vietnamese get together for a baby shower. They took every last one, heads and all. If prepared right they make pretty good calamari strips :) |
