Let me know. I have been so busy with work, I am not following this.

On another front: first ride tomorrow in over a week. It will be cold but still should be epic.

Nice! Glad you two made it home safely.

The travel time it takes to and from there is something. I have a friend that comes to the Washington meet up from Hervey Bay every other year, and he generally leaves an hour after he gets here. Course, it takes 2 days for him to get back home! He does get to fly on cool jets though.

I've never yet left somewhere warm to go to someplace cold.

That will change one of these days - an Alaska trip is on my must-do list.

Anyone know anything about Polycythemia vera?

Gloat in front of us dejected losers, why don't you?

Speaking of which, there was less ice/snow on the MUP return trip. I didn't resort to unclipping. However, I hit the big patch going too fast and it immediately occurred to me that slamming on the brakes probably wasn't a good idea.

These are the reflexive cycling instincts one can only pick up by being a seasoned rider.

The frozen stuff should be a non-factor tomorrow afternoon, thankfully. One day was dumb enough.

Who in their right mind would?

RollCNY 01-18-13 06:45 PM

Just got done grilling chicken speedies in 21 deg weather. I love NY. Tomorrow is supposed to hit 42, so the bikes will go to the carwash. Yay!

On a trip to Alaska back in May/June, 2002, we encountered temperatures from the 40's °F up into the 80's °F around Anchorage.

Carwash?

Chicken speedies?

LesterOfPuppets 01-18-13 07:19 PM

Chicken speedos are all the rage in NY.

Local delicacy.

Special marinade started by a high school kid in Binghamton many years ago. I figured they, like salt potatoes, were nationwide at this point.

I never heard of spiedies until I moved here.

Carwash?

They were unresponsive, if not down right surly. They had to be masticated in the end.

I figure the car wash has warm water, so my hands won't freeze. The SS is fairly salt encrusted at this point, and snow bank rub downs aren't keeping it clean. If I put it in the hot tub the wife will kill me.

Hey DAtlas, have spiedies made it to Malvern, PA? Not that you would eat them and ruin your figure. :)

Binghamton can keep 'em, but thanks for thinking of me.

My dad was just diagnosed with it. I'm not supposed to know. :o

BillyD 01-18-13 07:44 PM

This is the first I'm hearing of them.

It's a blood disorder where your body makes too many red cells. One of the few diseases that help your cycling. It sometimes progresses to leukemia but sometimes not. He should be seeing a hematologist to confirm the diagnosis and discuss treatment options.

Their first major debut was at The Great New York State Fair. How could you miss that?

This is the doc that made the diagnosis. http://www.camc.org/body.cfm?id=18&a...detail&ref=418

They took a unit of blood from him today, I guess they will be doing that every so often. Also mentioned a chemo pill.

Would that have anything to do with his three recent mini strokes?
