Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You can see him coming down Beach Road from about 4km away because his shoulders are 3m wide.

I never saw the Softride, but I've heard the great story about the Zipp bike and his world record. If you're ever in his shop, try to get him talking about the Zipp. It's pretty amusing how keen they were for him to use their bike, and how crap the bike was for sprinting, etc, etc.

that was it!! Bright red fukker. Classic.

no one had enough guts to tell him he looked like a goose.

I'm pretty sure Zipp were looking after him, that was the only reason he was using it

Certainly stood out. Enormous red bike with a downtube like a railway sleeper and pink and mauve skinsuit. Best sit in the bunch....like being behind a school bus.

I think I know all the Beach Road group rides and the Thursday SBR ride through Heidleberg, but what other rides are there?

Any group rides through the Dandenongs in summer?

Bikes: Thylacines...only Thylacines.

So, you're a Creature of the Night then?

160kms is a little out of my league Hitchy, but one of the regular rides those guys do might be okay ( the 90km ones ). Yeah, except for the start time

The GF already complains about how wasted I am during the week because of my riding. I'd hate to think was a 7am start would do.

Did you guys get fitted up by John? He does a kick arse fit-up job, although the fücker aint exactly a barrel of laughs. Not that I'd tell him that, of course

actually Tigerboy...I'm a bit worried about 531 & Ed...they've been smokin' to much 'wacky weed'....they think they've been seeing pink & mauve giants on red bikes hammering after them!......Nimbin heads perhaps?......then there' 531's infa red 'rudy's' that he wears so he can see where he' going.........this thread is getting weird!

Could be worse - they could go on about some huge Yeti-like guy with flaming red hair on a bike that looks like a Tassie Tiger

Almost true! I have to scrub my cheap, clear glasses with metho, just so I can see where I am.

I might have to cange my name to "Kervello". I'm going out to Croydon Cyclery right now to finally check out a SuperProdigy frame.

What should I check on the frame before I splash the cash?

Any other tips?

That's the best (well, one of the best) things about being single

Just the frame and fork. Yeah, dunno why they provide a post; must be an odd size.

I bet they won't let me whack in a rear wheel to check the stay alignment (i don't really know what I'm talking about).

I'm gunna try to trade in the Scapin (no fork).

Anyone wanna buy the world's cheapest Scapin before I drop it off? Triple figure price tag, without a fork.

Leon at Pro Motion said I should've used a 44 or 45mm rake fork, but after trying three or four forks, I wasn't prepared to blow 400 or 500 bucks on another fork, and still be disappointed.

Errr.....big JF's fit philosophy is keeping numerous bike shops around Melbourne in business.

Wound up? you mean those Scapin forks that cost $1500 bucks? no way.

If you ever go to Pro Motion, lately, Leon has been selling some old-stock Scapins without forks for $1000.
They have the old style thin tubes, are lugless, and I reckon (going by the weight; 1670g, only 170g more than my Kennedy Dedacciai 7003) that they are made from Genius. They have some "modern" features such as curved seat stays, veritcal dropouts, and the STI braze-ons are on the head-tube.

I found the steering to be too twitchy, and I was getting speed wobbles, etc.
Maybe I'm too heavy for it (86kgs)

Well, that's what the young guy at Pro Motion said, but I guess there's a few different types.
