Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Why don't you just grab a packet of dripping and a big pack of SAXA salt. Spoon it straight in for the same taste and effect as KFC. Have a doctor handy if you intend on having seconds.

I will admit, that does sound quite appealing. But it's all about the 11 secret herbs and spices man. They're like an aphrodesiac.

And how has this country survived without one decent Mexican restaurant? If you read an Aussie MTB mag, the Aussie riders actually rave on about Mexican food in the states. I miss good Mex.

Interesting blog, Mr. big cat. This seems to be a fairly articulate bunch. That must be why none on you takes themselves too serious.

Thylacine had his little rant about prices here, and he's absolutely right. I should stop trying to import stuff myself, and just become a consultant to overseas companies that aren't aware of how much they can make by shipping here. None of them use USPS, as it's not as convenient as FedEx(pensive) or UPS or DHL, but think how much that would open the market. And no, it wouldn't really affect jobs here. Drop into any LBS in Newcastle, and the only one working is the mechanic. No sales jobs would be lost. As far as the article on Schwinn, when I was a kid in the 70's, the Stingray was "The" bike to have. And I did have the Mongoose, Specialized and Trek too, in later years. Australia needs to become a bike building nation. Heck, even the Kiwis have KeeWee MTBs. Whew! Now I can go back to being a moron.

Well. You already know mine. So get to it fella!

[Edit] Rofl. Actually, I've got to admit I forgot who Brooke Burke was. I was thinking you fellas were talking about some particularly horny strumpet off "Totally Wild" (you know the kids show, not that I watch it myself). I was thinking, "horny, kids and animal loving lovely? Got to gets me some of that". Sadly, it wasn't the case. But I'll never turn down an ogle at Brooke.

I think she's on a show called "Wild On", or something, in the US

I'm still looking for your email in my 'box', but I've sent you mine in a private message

Expat - You're right about the USPS deal. I can see the reasons why people use UPS domestically in the US ( Yay, no more trips to the post office ), but the bottom line is is that internationally, USPS is cheap, super reliable, and more often than not bypasses customs and all that bollocks - everything that FedEx and UPS et al isn't.

As for Brooke Burke.....what can I say? It was a sad day when she left Wild On. That woman is not from this planet.

You can now print your own postage from home in the US. I don't understand how it works, as I've only used a proper postage meter, but I think you pay online then print on your home printer, or something like that. UPS offers it too, but they just bill your account when you drop it off or have the packages picked up. The point is, someday someone, somewhere is going to give the Australian bike shops a big wake up call. All it takes is a Supergo, Performance, or Pricepoint to open a location here, and there will be a dramatic change. Pricepoint has their own brand, Sette, which I've been trying to get here. They're pretty slack in responding, so I don't think it will ever happen. Who knows, maybe I'll move back to the states with my wife and kids, and send you guys all your stuff real cheap. Could happen. Ok, I'm back off the soapbox for now.
