No major rides planned yet, but I have to pay my licence fees this weekend so it looks like a nice ride from Maitland to Ourimbah and back on Sunday. A true century at 160km (100miles). Just gotta figure out the route and pit stops. Not too many pubs on that route  |
Morning
Well, coach Ed kinda suggested I might wanna try adding two 150+km rides a week (something I've never done before), so all I was planning was 5 times up and down Beach Rd instead of two.:) Maybe a trip out to King Lake, or something. |

Oi Rowan, where do you get decent info on the randoneers thingy?
|
Audax Australia's website.
www.audax.org.au It has everything you might want to know... calendar, joining, reports... even downloads of back issues of the magazine, Checkpoint (which contains a lot of useful stuff. Then there are links to various other randonnee sites. |

Hey 532.
What was that stuff all about on the Hurting People's Feelings thread? Were eyou dinky-di? I thought for a moment you had killed off the thread with a dose of sanity. I was trying to think of a reply, but couldn't without looking too harsh. :) |

Feel free to have a crack; I've heard 'em all before. Unfortunately, I have a relative who's schizophrenic, and a couple of others who are "just" bipolar, and there are times when even a wrong look from someone can throw them off for a few days. I couldn't figure out that response from WorldWind: "It's a good thing none of us are strangers..... except you. Who are you?" Is he just trying to be funny, or does he actually think he knows someone very well after exchanging a few sentences on a forum? This doesn't mean I'm getting all heavy on yooz; we've been dealing with it for nearly 20 years, so you don't have to tiptoe. Any, like I said in that post, we just never know how sensitive people are to being bagged, even on an open forum like this. |

Like I've said before, when training for the criteriums and track stuff, I used to absolutely KILL myself for less than 200km a week. Do track riders still do heaps of kms? |

It just never sunk in, and he basically ended up telling me I was a d1ckhead. :p My 'lack of understanding' problem was augmented by hanging out with "scientists" (physiology lecturers who never rode bikes), who laughed at the suggestion of training 600 or 700km a week for 45km event.
Like I've said before, when training for the criteriums and track stuff, I used to absolutely KILL myself for less than 200km a week. Do track riders still do heaps of kms? That's probably the answer. Look at Ryan Bailey's physique in winning Olympic gold medals, then the Madison and other longer-distance riders like Brown, O'Grady, McGee et al, who are built more like lean road riders (in fact, they are). (Sorry to be sexist in the examples -- Mears and McTier and Carragan probably display the same traits). So the answer, by my deduction (and according to the Stern creed) would be two-fold. Sprint track cyclists would concentrate time on building muscle bulk and power (most likely in the gym), and the endurance riders would do what they always have done -- ride, ride, ride. Howzat? |
WTF??? Where is this post 531?? I dun get it? What woz the context?

? Did you get my tip about the smiley faces the other day? Rather than waiting for them to load, you can just type the code. For example, for "roflmao", you just type "roflmao" with the colons on either side. Same with the smile, etc |
