As kids get older they get a bit bored with the trailer idea. It's just like being in a tent. It can also be a bit scary for them because they are down at the business end of passing traffic. Lots of road and engine noise down there. In a seat they are close to you (ie. happier and safer) and are strapped in, plus they get to look around from a good height. Kids that are prone to travel sickness can't ride in a trailer because they don't have a visual motion reference to match what their ears are telling them. Makes them seasick in about 10mins.

Lake Macquarie. You know, the one with all the pretty sailing boats on it
NOTE: technically it isn't a lake at all because it is connected to the sea. It's more like a closed bay or summint. Maybe that's where your confusion set in.

I was just playing stoopid. Nope, haven't been around the lake yet. But I got my new shifters/derailleur today. Also some chain lube, road rash kits, and I've still got some gloves on ebay. Road biking gloves*.

Has anyone seen anything in the papers about a holocaust in Victoria? No 531, No Hitchy, No Thylacine. Brief appearance from ed. What gives? Has my constant rabble finally melted their brains?? Did they go for a group ride and cross paths with another pedestrian? What in blazes is going on?

Trailer has it's benefits like fits a second child (if I find one), food, nappies and allsorts of junk but it's obviously bigger and more $. But it can go on my MTB or road bike. I've ridden with a Bob Trailer and it's very easy to handle.
Seat on the back has limited weight and can't be easily changed between bikes.
Anyone had experience with either of these? I'm sure training is almost impossible with either set-up, it'll be more like long steady rides, a little more scenic that I'm used to.

...been there, done that. How you do it depends on the age of the kid. You can do the seat or the trailer for the little ones....or the 1/2 bike trailer thingo with pedals for the bigger ones. I wouldn't be putting any of this stuff on me racing or normal training bike. Get a POS specifically for this duty. You'll be surprised how much decent training you can get in. I used to do hill intervals with one of the daughters on the back, whipping me like a trotter!...c'mon daddy, c'mon daddy, faster!.....now she's a bit older, I've told her revenge will be mine. I told her my ambition is to live long enough to become a burden to them!

How honored we are to receive this, his latest scribbling on cycling.
And on how to handle rugrats-in-tow as well.
Well, what's your excuse for letting this thread tumble down the gurgler, eh?

I'd cut 531 some slack coz he's actually put up some credentials as a real utility cyclist.
The others?
Living in the dreams of what might have been.
Now we've worn 'em down (along with their wives and bosses for the excessive amount of time on BF), they're just wimps waiting under the awning for the light drizzle to stop.

* Original post didn't allow the real word, so I had to edit, 531.

I can't really ride in this heat; I just end up rolling around for about 45km.
Is that why proper riders train in the early morning?

I ashamed of myself. I have succumbed to pleasure. All I had to do was get some fresh milk for my weet-bix. But they were calling: "Eat us" they hissed, in a manner strangely like the voices in Evil Dead. How could I refuse? So a vegemite sandwich with two runny fried eggs it was. Yummm.

Munchie, I've nearly got a working bike again. The Cannondale will sit and wait until I can work out the Headshok replacement. In the meantime, I've nearly gotten my SS turned back into a 16 speed. Should be road worthy in a day or two.

That choccy was worse than melted crayons. And my insides can't stand OJ. Especially the ex-wife and boyfriend murdering OJ. I put some less aggressive tires on my spare bike, along with the lightest bits I could find, and replaced the tubes with some heavily talced Torellis. Should be a quicker ride than the Cannondale.

Expat, this is the Loop of the Lake: https://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/trafficinf...ew_cc_a1_2.pdf
and these are the bike tracks around Newey: https://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/trafficinf...ew_cc_a1_1.pdf
I think the legen goes like this:
green dots are bike/pedestrian paths
orange/brown = very heavy traffic zone and/or difficult conditions
purple = easier conditions (eg. wide bike lane on side of road)
>>>>> = hard climb (in direction indicated)
