Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You might be due for a "testi-tuck"

Nick Nolte had one after years of wearing boxers and not jocks.

He was sick of them swinging 'round his knees.

Bikes: how long have you got?

G'day,

well I've officially had the worst ride ever this morning!.....didn't feel much enthused about it, but thought I had better. Anyway, I suffered like a beast for 80km, felt cr@p...hope i'm coming down with something (cos that would explain it!).....gawd, I'd wanna find some form before the Alpine in 2 weeks!....think I might take up golf instead

You've gotta try my habits: sleeping from 4am to 12:30pm, then go for your ride at about 6

It's not a topic I deal with very well. If it's not someone I know, I'm pretty detached emotionally. Makes me seem mean and cold, but that's the way it is. I've dealt with too many losses in my own family to get worked up over someone else. Sounds terrible, but that's the way it is. Did you see Hitchy's new girl?

Thanks for the vote of support there Expat . But I was up in Maitland.

Did a test drive of a 'recovery' ride with Hunter Districts CC. I reckon it would be just up your alley mate. Starts about 10 foot away from you place at Hadleys Cycles. Heads out to Wallsend via bike paths, then Sandgate, Industrial Drive, Carrington foreshore, Newcastle foreshore, Union St, Glebe Road, then back to Hadleys. Only two little climbs, the rest at 28-30kmh.

PaulShaw has emailed me, so he's OK.

That leaves climbo to log in.

The nervous looking sheep, or actually something he'd be half a chance of reproducing with if the bikes didn't send him impotent years ago?

You'd better go back and check the pick again saccy. That sheep looked liked she was enjoying it. If my beer fogged memory serves me correctly (yup, I'm too lazy to scroll back and get the facts right!) it was tonguing out a tinnie while he was hard at it.

My kinda ride starts from our house, goes to the stadium, hard right towards Kotara, up the Fernleigh track and into the bush. We go over the hills and along the cliffs above the beach before heading into Merewether. I think from there it follows about the same route we take from Darby Street to get back this way. We hit about 45 on a mild uphill sprint against my brother in law. I'm sure that with the right tires, the missus and I could hit 100 on the downhill to the Jesmond roundabout, but I'd rather fly down fire roads in the bush.

Lucky I'm not so lazy. Something's going on there with the lovely lady, but I'm not so sure what. Must admit I'm more ammused by the cheesy grin Hitchies got on while he's chocker up her.

You must be made of sterner stuff than the rest of us, for we are all riddled with immense jealousy and envy

....even though we aren't Kiwi's

When I was in NZ, I tried to get a photo of sheep but they all ran away. I found out the trick was to talk to them. As soon as they realized I wasn't a local, they came right up to the camera...

She was quite svelte looking lassy though, for sure. But ahem... no, I'm not a kiwi.

I was on my best behaviour there, and didn't even partake of the native wimmin. I had already arranged to meet my wife there for our first date, and would have felt guilty about sampling the local wares.
